Lazy A Shoot - A Woodland Wedding Festival Styled Shoot

Lazy A Shoot - A Woodland Wedding Festival Styled Shoot

via

I am loving today's shoot. Not only is it full of lots of wonderful bohemian, gypsy, Mexican and Peruvian inspired wedding inspiration, it is also full of lots of bright colours, gorgeous textiles, bare feet and fabulous smiles.

Jeni Peterson from floral and event design company Westvirjeni, wanted to infuse her passion for feathers, arrows, skulls and antlers with a music festival wedding vibe to help promote a new beautiful event venue in Back Creek Valley, West Virginia. She wanted to showcase how this venue can be used as an awesome space for a festival wedding and to play on the existing wild and nomadic vibe the venue already had.

Look out for the gorgeous hand tied bouquets designed by Westvirjeni with blooms from the Westvirjeni gardens; the barn wood tables dressed in handwoven Mexican textiles, topped with vignettes of florals, feathers, antique candles, antlers, and skulls adorned with flowers; handwoven dream catchers and hand painted deer skulls by Appalachian American Trading Co; model Jade's vintage Peruvian dress from a local consignment store and her hand painted guitar which she strummed during a few of the shots.

Please note that all items featured in this shoot have either been sourced ethically or from the natural surroundings. The animal skulls and antlers featured came from animals who died of natural causes.

Jeni talks us through her ideas and inspiration for the shoot....

My dear friends Mariah and Nelson Nims took over managing their family campground for the 2015 season, Lazy-A Camping. It's a beautiful piece of land dropped in the middle of Back Creek Valley in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia. A meandering, spring fed creek runs through the property and rustic buildings, including an old bank barn and the original family homestead (where Mariah's grandfather was born) dapple the landscape. It provides an incredible view of the mountains and has endless fields of waving grasses and wildflowers. There's a stage for a band, and a covered pavilion for a celebration. I just knew it was the set for an inspirational shoot and I had been planning one in my mind for a while before we actually pulled it off. It was the perfect opportunity to use the venue, collaborate with some of my favorite vendors and help Lazy-A with their re-branding.

My obsession with all things feather, arrow, skull, or antler were the main inspiration for the shoot, with a festival style twist. I love using these elements in my designs, which I think stems back to my outdoors-man father. He is my main provider of these intricate pieces of natural art, sourcing them ethically and humanely. I wanted a bright color palette and felt like the dream catchers and hand painted skulls created by Appalachian American Trading Co. would create a perfect mix of natural and whimsy to bring the overall vision together - a woodland wedding festival.

I love working with Pang of Pangtography, so she was my first call for a photographer. Crystal Snyder did hair and makeup for our models; Jade Tremba, Ashley Wertman and Grayson Topping. Props were provided by B. Vintage, Appalachian American Trading Co. and from the private Westvirjeni collection.
