Don't call Emily Schuman a mommy blogger. Before giving birth to her adorable little one, daughter Sloan, she already had an established online following for her lifestyle and fashion blog, cupcakes and cashmere. Her online musings were so popular that she went on to launch a successful, and lovely, clothing line and pen several books about entertaining, decorating and living with style.

So we couldn't think of a better lady to talk to about how to celebrate Mother's Day.

Do you have plans for Mother's Day this year? What are they?

It's only my second Mother's Day as a mom, so to say that this is our tradition sounds a bit early, but it's what we've done two years in a row. We go for a walk together and then out for breakfast. We then spend the day as a family, and then I treat myself to something on my own in the afternoon-like a mani/pedi or a massage.

Do you remember something really special you gave your mom one Mother's Day?

As a kid, I remember always thinking that if I could just afford to buy her something, that would be what she really wanted. But the truth is, the gifts I made for her-whether it was a poem or a piece of art-were what meant the most.

What would be the best Mother's Day gift your daughter could give you?

Something she made with me in mind. I can't wait for her to be able to draw my pictures that I can frame.

Tell us about your favorite thing to do with Sloan.

It's hard to narrow down my favorite thing, but our morning dance parties are pretty great. She's a Belieber, so we'll dance around to "Sorry" on repeat. She gets so excited and seeing her little dance moves come out is the cutest. She has this little shoulder shimmy that my husband and I are now always trying to mimic.

Are there any traditions, anything you did with your mom, that you plan to share with your daughter?

When I was a kid, my mom and I always were together on New Year's Eve. We watched movies, ate lots of fun junk food and stayed up until midnight. Even when I got to be an angsty teenager, I preferred to be with her than out at some crazy party.

How has motherhood most obviously changed you?

It's made me more grateful. I always have appreciated things, but there's something about bringing a life into this world that makes you realize how special each day truly is.

Do you have any tricks for distracting your daughter while you try to get some writing done?

My trick is separating work from my life at home. So there are rarely times when I'm at home with Sloan when I'm thinking about work. When I'm at home, I'm focused on her and when I'm at the office, that's when I'm getting my work done. Creating that work/life separation has been integral to maintaining my sanity and feeling like I'm doing a good job at being a mom and a business woman.

What can't you wait to do with Sloan when she's older?

Everything! Play sports with her, celebrate holidays, bake cookies, watch movies, read books ( Harry Potter in particular) and teach her about the importance of family.
