Anne and Al in Topeka, Kansas on their wedding day, September 9, 1943. Image submitted by Angela L. Coleman via Save Family Photos.

" My paternal grandfather Al was a Navigator in the U.S. Army Air Corps in WWII and called my grandmother Anne to meet him in Kansas when he had a few days leave so they could be married. Anne developed health issues later in life, including Parkinson's Disease and Alzheimer's. Al cared for her mostly on his own (with the necessary medical assistance) in their home until shortly before she passed. I know of no better example of unconditional love than watching him care for her in her most vulnerable state. I had the privilege of living with them during her illness and there was not a single day that went by when he didn't treat her with the utmost compassion and tenderness. There are few people in this world like my grandparents and I am honored to be a part of their legacy and love story. In January it will be 10 years since my Grandpa died and not a day goes by that I don't think of them both."
