Former model, Harper's Bazaar fashion editor and celebrity stylist-and forever style icon-Linda Rodin turned to experimenting with essential oils in her bathroom 10 years ago. She wanted to come up with something she couldn't find on the market-a product that was simple, luxurious and provided immediate results, that hydrated skin while leaving her complexion luminous. She succeeded in creating Rodin Olio Lusso face oil - the first in her current collection of beauty products, perfumes and candles.

We're excited to offer Rodin's original Olio Lusso, with its blend of 11 floral and botanical essential oils, as well as her newest lavender oil-along with a number of other luxury beauty items from her line. We spent some time chatting with Rodin about her new products, keeping things simple, and her secret to looking so naturally beautiful without a touch of makeup-apart from her signature lip.

What brought you to where you are with your beauty business today? What started it all?

I'd been in the fashion business. I lived in the studio. I was always working with these top makeup artists and models, and I'd try the things I'd see there and think, "Oh, this looked really great on Gisele," and I was disappointed with everything I bought. And there was no face oil 10 years ago, so that kind of started the whole thing.

Tell us more about your brand and the products you offer.

Everything is made by batch, and it's like a wine vintage, so they're all just slightly different, but I approve each batch. And that's the beauty of it, I think. The only preservative is a natural preservative, so it's not going to last 30 years, but long enough.

Also, I'm not a makeup brand. My thing is, you can't be all things to all people. So, since I'm the face of the brand, I can't make and sell things things that I wouldn't use myself, because it wouldn't make sense. It's about the authenticity of it for me. If you decide to make something, you have to stand behind it. I think it has to be something you actually use. And I do. It's all I use. I love it. I'm addicted to my own stuff.

For someone new to your line, what would you recommend they try first to get them hooked?

Oh, you're asking the wrong girl. I couldn't choose! You'll have to buy them all! [ Laughs.]

Tell us about your fragrances. How did they come about?

When I first started, I had one thing, my oil. I was at a trade show with it, and someone introduced me to [star perfumer] David Moltz. And he said, "Hi, I'm addicted to your oil. The smell is intoxicating. It's the greatest thing I've ever tried." I said, "Oh thank you! What do you do? Who are you?" And he said, "I'm a perfumer." So I said, "Would you make me a perfume?" And he said, "I'd love to!" So he made my first and second. He's a genius.

The first, Olio Lusso Perfume, was inspired by my original oil. I wanted them both to smell the same-of jasmine. The second, bis, was inspired by my mom. I told him I wanted it to smell like her-Juicy Fruit gum, tobacco, burnt pepper, a little bit of lavender. Some cardamom. Very sort-of 1950s. I wouldn't have known what to put in it to get it there, but he got it exactly where I wanted. His nose is so refined. It's crazy. He's great.

When I decided it was time to make a second oil, he helped. We tried a lot of things, and David said, "What about lavender?" I said, "I don't know if I'm a lavender fan." He picked two of the rarest kinds, Bulgarian lavender and French lavender flower. I smelled it, and I was sold. It's the stem and the flower, and when you put them together, it's just this warm lavender fragrance.

You know, I'm a creature of habit, so I have dinner at 5 o'clock, take a bath at 6 o'clock, and go to bed at 7 o'clock. When I take my bath and put the oil on, I could fall asleep in there. There is something to that relaxing ritual of lavender. There's something to be said about this lavender blend, which I'd never experienced before I used it. It's magical. It's the whole experience ... how it makes you feel.

What advice do you have for beauty and antiaging regimens for older women?

You know, I've never had a face-lift or dyed my hair. But we're all vulnerable, and you want to believe you can be wrinkle free, but I would never make that claim with my products. There's beauty in simplicity. I think it's a relief to know you don't have to start this or that regime when you get older, thinking, "Oh, I have to use this and put that on to cover this up," and say, "Okay, I don't have to do that." When I was growing up, we didn't have all those things. We had soap and water. There wasn't skin care like there is today, and women were still beautiful. We can still keep things simple today. My products just make you the best you can be, naturally.
