The Ceremony

Your ceremony in three words. Intimate, spontaneous, magical.

Why did you choose this location for your ceremony? It looked so beautiful, and since our wedding was in March it enabled us to have an outdoor feel to our wedding while not being cold. However, funnily enough, neither of us thought of the location until my Mom suggested it even though it was Shane's favorite place to read & write as a student and his favorite spot to teach classes as a professor.

Our wedding day was unexpectedly warm for March so we last minute decided to leave open the big wooden doors behind where our ceremony was taking place. It really enhanced the beauty of our ceremony by letting in all this wonderful natural light.

How did you go about planning your ceremony? We didn't have a template, we just knew the mood we were going for. Something playful, engaging and that was true to us as a couple . Our officiant and Nancy's mom helped with a lot of the planning.

Who officiated your ceremony? How did you choose him/her? Dave Phillips officiated our ceremony. While driving and discussing wedding plans we realized we had to choose someone to officiate our wedding. Nancy immediately thought of Dave. While Dave is a dear friend of Shane's from college, he quickly became someone close to us not only as a couple but as individuals. His sense of friendship and humor fit perfectly into the vibe we wanted for our wedding.

Did you include any traditions in your ceremony? We did! Our officiant ringing of the bell, we included a unity candle, we did the sharing of the cup (where we each poured wine into the cup & then frank from it) and finally Shane did the breaking of the glass.

What was your ceremony music? Groom & Wedding Party Processional : You Got It by Roy Orbison // Bride's Processional : God Only Knows by The Beach Boys // Recessional: I Put A Spell On You by Screamin Jay Hawkins

What were your vows like? We wrote our own vows the night before our wedding.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding ceremony? That we planned it all in 3 months! And we loved that it felt like our family and friends were participating along with us during our ceremony, laughing (and crying) with us.

What inspired you when you were planning your wedding? Anything floral, wild and vintage.

Please tell us about any other special details or moments from your wedding and or ceremony. Since our Grandfathers passed away the year before we had photographs of them on our ceremony table. As a gift Nancy's mom gave Shane a pocket locket with a photograph of his grandparents on their wedding day.

Did you include any other traditions in your wedding? Our wedding bands were Shane's Grandparents' wedding bands.

If you had it to do over again, is there anything you would do differently? Absolutely nothing. We loved it as it was.

Is there anything else that helps tell the story of your wedding? Our wedding was true to us as a couple. It was spontaneous , planned in three months, very DYI and filled with laughter.

Thank you Nancy & Shane for sharing your wedding ceremony with us!
