This couple's engagement shoot took an unexpectedly awesome turn that will rock your socks off.

On Oct. 16, John Awesome and Nydia Hernandez were taking their engagement pictures in Holy Jim Canyon, California with photographer Janet Wheeland of Wheeland Photography.

Towards the end of the session, they crossed paths with black metal band Coldvoid, who was prepping for their own photo shoot under the full moon nearby.

"We noticed a few guys with some corpse paint makeup on sitting at a nearby bench blaring out some black metal music," the groom-to-be told ABC News.

"We just randomly thought it would be a funny idea if we could get them to be a part of our engagement shoot," Awesome continued. "So we approached them and asked and they were more than happy to accept!"

Wheeland told The Huffington Post that the band members were "the nicest guys," and even gave them a copy of their new demo.

"They hadn't started their photo shoot yet because they were waiting for it to get darker so we chatted for a few minutes," the photographer said. "John talked with them about the metal band he used to be in. The band had a great sense of humor and were great sports for our photo."

Coldvoid's sinister props, including a sword and a black candelabrum that dripped red wax, created a fun and festive juxtaposition to the couple's sweet pose, giving the image a distinctly Halloween feel.

A friend of the photographer posted one of the photos to Imgur on Thursday, where it has been viewed nearly 800,000 times.

"It was a perfect, spontaneous finale," Wheeland said of the Coldvoid photo op. "We couldn't have planned it better."

Below, more engagement pics, including a few "Forrest Gump"-themed shots of the couple from earlier in the day.
