DIY Holiday Yarn Hanging

DIY Holiday Yarn Hanging

The holidays are right around the corner and we know all of you are decorating your homes up a storm! So we wanted to share a fun DIY we created with Afloral, our favorite silk flower company, for you to do one night this week or over the weekend with some girlfriends! For this piece, we were inspired by this DIY from HoneyOhMy, but we wanted to share our own twist on this fun idea using silk flowers for a holiday piece.

This DIY is perfect for a boho chic holiday look, but we think it'd be great to re-purpose throughout the year using different flowers from Afloral - perfect for your seasonal wedding or home! Here's how we did it...

What You'll Need:
* Silk flowers from AFloral. We picked evergreen, cranberries, preserved cotton, feathers, pinecones and magnolia's from this curated page on Afloral.com
* Gold Metal Macrame Rings in two sizes ( this and this)
* Yarn (the thicker the better)
* Wooden Dowel
* Glue Gun

Step 1: Star by measuring a piece of string (double sided) of how long you'd like the hanging to be. We did 12in. Loop the string under the smallest ring and pull the ends through the loop (this is called a Lark's Head Knot - check out YouTube if you need extra help, we'll be doing a few of these later on).

Step 2: Next, tie each end of your string to the ends of your wooden dowel. We also secured this with some glue to make sure it stayed put.

Step 3: Measure out another piece of (double sided) string and estimate where you want your larger ring to hang in the middle. Do another Lark's Head Knot on the bigger ring with your newly measured string.

Step 4: Tie a knot with the ends of your loose string.

Step 5: Take your knotted string that is attached to your larger ring, and pull through your first Lark's Head Knot.

Step 6: Pull your larger ring through the space in-between your two ends and tighten.

Step 7: Take your yarn and loop around your elbow 8 times to great a circle. Cut the yarn. Then, cut all the looped ends so it becomes 8 long strands.

Step 8: Make another Lark's Head Knot using your bundle of string and tighten. Do this enough times so that your wooden dowel is full. We trimmed the ends so they were in a slight 'V' shape.

Step 9: Take your greens (or whatever your base flower is) and glue gun along your ring. We went for a crescent shape along the side.

Step 10: Lastly, fill in using larger florals first (cotton, garden roses) and then fill in with filler (feathers, cranberries,etc). Keep this part as light as you can so that it hands how you want, adjust as needed!

So fun for the holidays right? Plus you can leave it up all winter :)

If you make your own Holiday Yarn Hanging with AFloral using these steps or supplies, we'd love to see how it turns out, so please share on Instagram along with the hashtag #GreenWeddingShoesDIY. We'll regram our faves!
