8 New Year's Resolutions For Every Bride-to-be - B&G Blog

This year has gone crazily quick, and now that the turkey has been gobbled and the presents have been unwrapped, it's time to start focusing on the New Year and what's to come. Whether you have been engaged for months or you've recently gained yourself a shiny new best friend on your left hand (congrats!), here are some New Year resolutions for you lovely brides-to-be...

Remember you are marrying your other half, not your napkins or colour scheme. I will eat 24 sausage rolls and 18 bags of Dorritos if I want too. I will make time for no-planning wedding free time. Your wedding suppliers are on your side. Don't be afraid to ask for help. If I end up on YouTube, it's going to be for a good reason. The guest list is your new priority - no matter how cute those mini mason jars are. We can confirm it's not up there with the easiest and most fun part of wedding planning, but you shouldn't make any big decisions until you have your guest list in place. It's crucial you have a rough idea of how many guests will be invited to your special day as you don't want to be putting down half of your budget on a luxury castle if you're only inviting 35 people. So, you best get thinking about whether you're inviting Jen from Uni and Hilda from down the road that used to babysit you. A heart felt first dance, or an excellent speech are both great and flattering reasons to end up on the oh so powerful Internet for everyone to see. The only problem is once it's uploaded it's kind of guaranteed to be up there forever, so let's make sure any bridezilla melt downs are kept way out of view of any camera. As crazy as this may be, your future hubby may not find the cutlery arrangement super exciting... especially when the football is on. Even though he may not seem interested, he probably just looks over the small details and see's the bigger picture of marrying you. It may be your wedding and sure, you want to be in control but sometimes you've got to ask for a little helping hand. After all what are bridesmaids for? Okay, so handing over the plans to the biggest day of your life that you have been dreaming about since before you could walk to someone you have spoken to on the phone twice is pretty scary - we get that. The thing is, it's their job and you have to remember they do it every day - to them it's like washing the dishes or doing the weekly shop, but a bit more glamorous. There's no harm in giving good direction and making sure that they are clear on what you need, but asking for daily updates and not letting them breathe is borderline crazy. You're paying the vendors to do a job, so let them do it and don't take on more stress when you simply don't have to. Wedding planning should be fun however, when you start using your lunch hour to run wedding errands instead of eating, and the most exciting thing happening in the bedroom is the new season of "Don't tell the Bride" it can all start to get a bit draining. Getting married is totally exciting and a massive mile-stone in anyone's life but you need to give yourself a break. Make sure you make time for date nights with your hubby-to-be and girly catch ups with your ladies, planning a wedding is great, but it's one day not a lifestyle. There is so much pressure and expectations on brides-to-be, from bridal boot camps to magic tea which makes you lose 8 pounds over night. The truth is if you want to lose weight and get healthier, then good for you - but remember your partner is marrying you because they love you. The bridal world is a very fast paced scary place, from the thousands of gorgeous centrepiece ideas on Pinterest, to the unlimited variation of colour schemes in magazines - your mind is bound to keep changing and fluttering towards new ideas. This doesn't mean you have to increase your budget or re-arrange several suppliers. You chose your original ideas for a reason, and even though the Napkins are Ivory and on reflection they would have worked better in cream, it really isn't that much of a big deal.

Enjoy being engaged. Being engaged is such an amazing happy time for anyone, all the oohs and ahhs over the ring, and the excitement of knowing that you are going to spend the rest of your life with that special someone. It's easy to forget how special the engagement period actually is, so before you start planning the wedding and arranging the hen do just take a few months to enjoy being engaged.
