An and Jeffrey's Cultural wedding in Atlanta

An and Jeffrey's Cultural wedding in Atlanta

An and Jeffrey are both first generation Vietnamese-American and honoring their heritage was a huge priority for their wedding day. The couple held a held a traditional Vietnamese ceremony at An's parent's house the morning of the wedding and celebrated with a modern reception at Piedmont Park Greystone. The couple enlisted the expertise of Chancey Charm Atlanta to design the details of the lovely celebration including white centerpieces by Tulip and a romantic-rustic cake by Sugar and Slate. The blend and tradition and trend is lovely and so special and it's all captured to perfection in these gorgeous photographs by Chris Isham.

What made the wedding special and unique?

We're both first-generation Vietnamese-Americans and it was important to the both of us to incorporate our culture/heritage on our special day. We had a traditional Vietnamese wedding ceremony, which included a processional of my husband's family making their way to my parents' home with gifts (including a full, roasted pig!), a tea ceremony and well-wishes from members of both sides of the family. Both of our parents were married in traditional Vietnamese wedding ceremonies, and it was special for us to be able to have that same experience and share it with them.

Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!

My husband and I finally decided on May 21 as our wedding date just three months before, so needless to say, we didn't have as much time as most couples do to plan a wedding. I was nervous about being able to find a dress in time, but found the Maeve gown at BHLDN and immediately fell in love with its illusion neckline and classic silhouette. Unfortunately, the gown was back ordered until May 25, four days after our wedding date. I convinced myself that I would have to start back at square one with dress searching and made multiple appointments for the following weekend. But, our amazing planner, Brie Owens, went above and beyond and kept an eye on the dress, and even made calls to see if there was even a chance my dress was available. Brie called and told me there was one Maeve gown available online. Five minutes later, the dress was ordered and made it to my parents' house (couldn't let the husband see!) within a few days.

What were some touches added to make the wedding personal?

We love to travel and made that a part of our theme. We didn't want a traditional guestbook, so we had our guests sign a canvas map, which is now a wonderful piece that's hanging in our bedroom. Our family also did most of the work with our Vietnamese ceremony, so knowing that they basically created the ceremony was truly touching. We're also 90's kids, so having N'Sync, Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears and other wonderful 90's pop playing for most of our reception was great.

What was the most memorable part of the day?

There are too many to choose from! The fact that were were getting married didn't hit me (the bride) until my dad made a speech that had the entire room in tears (including my dad). But we also loved the reception because we were able to share our utter joy and happiness with those closest to us.

Tell us about how you met and became engaged.

We met during our freshmen year at the University of Georgia through my college roommate. She and Jeffrey were both in general chemistry and started studying together. Pretty soon afterwards, our study sessions turned to late-night Snelling (dining hall) runs for waffles and eventually, after our first unofficial date watching Wall-E, we were official. We got engaged almost 7 years later in San Francisco (which holds a special place in our hearts). After an early morning walk/hike, we made it to Land's Ending. We were the only ones there, except for an older gentleman who was spending his morning fishing. While admiring the view of the Golden Gate Bridge, Jeffrey pulled me towards him. With the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco in the background, Jeffrey asked me to marry him. (There was a speech in there, but I blacked out so I don't remember everything he said). Jeffrey also had his good friend hiding underneath a bush taking pictures of the proposal, so we also have wonderful pictures of the moment!
