Effortless Fall Wedding in the Colorado Mountains

When you have over a hundred years of family history in a stunning spot in the Colorado mountains, here's a tip: pick a day when the fall colors will be the most amazing, and have your wedding there. Simple, right? Well, Nellie & Ben's day honestly feels that effortless, and goes to show when you have such an incredible location, keeping everything else pared back and classic is just right. And it doesn't get much more classic than cream, which is the color of three of my fave details from this wedding: the couple's adorable labrador, Nellie's tulle Monique Lhuillier gown (perfect for twirling in those incredible wide open spaces), and the bouquets and garlands of roses everywhere you look!

Don't you love how the light filters through the layers of Nellie's dress, and shows the subtle little pieces of floral appliqué?

The Ceremony

Why did you choose this location for your ceremony? Ben and I have spent a lot of time in Steamboat over the past eight or so years. Every chance we get, we escape to Steamboat to spend time together with family and our yellow lab, Berkeley. The family history of Ben's step-father, J, goes back over 100 years in Steamboat.

Who officiated your ceremony? How did you choose him/her? Ben's step-father J officiated our ceremony. It was important to Ben and I that someone we both knew personally would marry us. We wanted it to feel personal. J is a big reason that Steamboat is a part of our lives and a special place to us.

Your ceremony in three words. Rustic, chic and fun.

Nellie says she and Ben were inspired by the mountains and the outdoors when they were planning. When you look at these shots you can sure see why - aren't these mountains just the most amazing backdrop?

The Reception

Why did you choose this location for your reception? We chose a venue where our ceremony and reception could be held in the same place. Our reception was outdoors and tented so we could take full advantage of our beautiful surroundings.

Did you have a signature cocktail? We served Moscow Mules and Cider.

How did you go about planning your wedding? We relied on Pinterest and wedding magazines, and made sure to stay true to our personalities.

What was your wedding menu? The Home Ranch have a reputation for their local farm-to-table food. We had a buffet that included: Home Ranch Bread / Caprese of Local Tomatoes, Fresh Mozzarella & Basil Pesto with Bresada / Roasted Brussel Sprouts, Cauliflower, Fennel, Shiitake Chips / Scallops over Chive Grits / Farro & Hazelnut Salad / Truffle Mushroom Risotto / Miso Glazed Black Cod, Baby Vegetable & Basil Spiked Israeli Couscous, Spicy Crab Broth / Filet with Signature Sauces: Chimichurri, Cherry Chutney, Home Ranch Horseradish, Ancho BBQ / Wedding Cake: Vanilla Cake with Vanilla Frosting / Cookies: Death by Chocolate & Macaroons.

What was your favorite moment or part of the reception? The speeches, the food and dancing.

What was your first dance song? Our first dance song was Coming Home by Leon Bridges. It has an old time feel but hasn't been overly done.
