BEAUTIFUL DESTINATIONS

Oahu's Stairway to Heaven is comprised of nearly 4,000 steps that lead up a steep mountain ridge, eventually unveiling an unfathomable view of the Hawaiin coastline. Constructed in 1942 by the U.S. Navy as a pathway to a top-secret transmitter tower, the stairs later became an instant attraction when they were opened to the public — but sadly, they were closed in 1987 when they were deemed unsafe. The city of Honolulu has spent almost a million dollars repairing the stairs and was considering their re-opening in 2002, but resident complaints and safety concerns halted these plans and the attraction has been closed ever since. However, that doesn't stop everyone, and amazing-view-seekers from across the world have made the Stairway to Heaven, also known as the Haiku Stairs, one of the most popular of Oahu's "forbidden" trails to date.
