Wedding - Kat Williams

Kat Williams

When I got married, aged 24, I had just started to recover from my eating disorder, I was still on anti-depressants and I was battling with my demons every day. In many ways planning a wedding was really hard, but in others it was a welcome distraction, a project to keep my mind occupied on something else. It can be extremely difficult to even think about planning a wedding if you struggle with any kind of mental health issue. This is your reminder that while weddings are lovely and important days, nothing is as important as looking after your own well-being. Not feeling good all the time does not make you a bad bride (nor does it make you a bad mum/ business owner/ human btw). It doesn't mean you shouldn’t get married, you shouldn’t have kids and you can’t run a successful business either. The wedding industry in particular is pretty notorious for promoting the fallacy that this is going to be the most important day of your life. Believe me, it’s a lovely day but it doesn’t have to be the pinnacle of your entire existence on this planet, GIVE ME STRENGTH! It's ok to protect your heart and mind from anything that makes you feel bad about yourself. It's ok to block, unfollow and unsubscribe. Allow yourself to feel sad if you need it, give yourself the time you need to get things done and be kind to yourself. You’re allowed to be vulnerable. You’re allowed to put yourself, and your mental health, first. Always. Photo: @devlinphotos
