BEAUTIFUL DESTINATIONS

My other biggest inspiration as a filmmaker has been my home, Hawaii. Growing up, I learned a lot from Kanaka maoli (Native Hawaiians) and I recognized how beneficial their wisdom can be to the world. However, like many indeginous peoples they have been treated unjustly both in the past, and the present. Even as I write this, Kanaka fight for their most sacred land, Mauna Kea. It’s not just their teachings, but their strength and resilience that inspires me to stand with Kanaka maoli and all indiginous peoples. I believe that looking to our past is imperative if we are to build a better future and that indiginous people carry a wisdom that our world desperately needs. I hope that in some small way my films highlight this wisdom. - @captainpotter
