"I have more of a relationship with the back of your phone than I do with you". I remember when Gareth said this to me. We were at having date night and I spent pretty much the whole time with my phone in my hand. "Oh I just need to reply to this one email super quickly", "Wait, wait, someone just left a comment on my latest post..." "Oh hang on I gotta check this one little thing..." The year was 2009 and I was trying to get my business off the ground. I was working all hours I could while simultaneously holding down a full time job. I'm not gonna lie to you, it was tough and stressful but that obsessive all-or-nothing attitude of mine got us to where we are today. In many ways that time was necessary. When you're trying to launch a business and build a brand to do have to hustle, hustle, hustle. But looking back, I also now realise how wrong I sometimes got it. Back then, Gareth had an IT business and I worked night shifts at a shopping channel. Our schedules conflicted horribly. In fact, we only got two nights a week to spend together. As Rock n Roll Bride started to take up more of my time, that precious "date night" we'd scheduled in each week soon ended up being a quick dinner, while Gareth stared at the back of my phone as we waited for our food to arrive. It very nearly broke us, but hustling is important, pushing yourself is vital and keeping going when everyone thinks you're crazy is often the only way to find success... BUT not at the detriment of your relationships. Family, lovers and friends first. Always. If I could go back I would have put my goddamn phone down more often. Email can always wait
