How to choose an orthopedic pillow?

Everyone knows, we spend in a dream about a third of our life. Sleep should be healthy, and this largely depends on the choice of our pillow. Thanks to advertising, manufacturers offer a huge range of pillows to us today. Therapeutic wedge pillows are very popular, advertisers convince us - these are the pillows that guarantee a healthy sleep. And are they really useful? Can it be more useful than a down pillows? And anyway, how do you know which pillow is right for you?

Let's start with why a person needs a good pillow. First of all, for comfort, so that our body has a rest during sleep. Normally, a person has natural physiological curves in the spine. When a person goes to bed these bends disappear, that is, the spine becomes flat. This leads to the fact that our muscles rest during sleep. If we bend the neck during sleep, our muscles do not relax, that is, they are either overgrown or overstrained. The main purpose of the pillow is to remove excess muscular tension. Let's see how various types of pillows cope with this task.

High feather pillow. With a high pillow, the nape rises, which leads to a flattening of the cervical spine and stretching of the muscles. With constant sleep on such a pillow, a deformity of the spine is formed in a person. The consequence of all this can be headaches.

Padding polyester. This material is an excellent heat insulator, so the head is always warm. But padding polyester keeps the form very badly, therefore the pillow does not accept a correct position and does not keep it. Therefore, often with a dream on such a pillow, people often turn around in search of a position in which his muscles relax. A superfluous muscle strain leads to morning headaches.

Sofa cushions. Unfortunately, some people like to take a nap in the afternoon on these decorative pillows and in vain. Such pillows are most often stuffed with a padding polyester, foam rubber or cotton wool. These materials are absolutely not suitable for sleeping at night. We have already spoken about the padding polyester - it does not keep the shape, foam rubber - does not take the desired form, and cotton wool very quickly gets into clots and does not support the head in the optimal position.

The pillow with buckwheat husks. This pillow with natural and healthy material is almost optimal for sleeping. Buckwheat husks perfectly take and hold shape. True, such pillows have a limited shelf life of not more than 2 years.

Orthopedic pillow. This pillow is really almost ideal for sleeping at night. But it's better to choose such a pillow individually, taking into account personal physiological characteristics. A manual therapist can help you to choose the right pillow to sleep at night. Children under 1 year of age are advised to sleep on special cushions with a slope angle of not more than 30°. It should be noted that such pillows are the most expensive.
