How to Keep Your Guests Happy at a Wedding

How to Keep Your Guests Happy at a Wedding

Weddings are fantastic gatherings, especially when it’s a chance to celebrate the next major step in the relationship between two people you love and admire.

As the bride and groom, you have carefully chosen your guests to share your day with you. But there is a fundamental error that is made, time and time again. On the day, the likelihood is you will be incredibly busy. There are photographs to be taken, people to organise and all the smaller details that involve you.

What this can mean is that your guests are left hanging about, in some cases for a few hours between the ceremony and the wedding banquet, the end of the meal and the evening party... in other words, there are voids to fill.

Not every guest will be happy sitting at the bar for an hour or two thus you need to do everything possible to keep your guests happy, and boredom at bay.

But how?

1 A Strong Timeline:

You may fear turning into bridezilla but if there is one part of your day you need to have arranged and perfectly executed, it is the timeline. This means having someone inform guests of when certain things will happen – like the photo shoot – and making sure there is a constant flow of finger food and drinks pre-the main wedding feast. If your budget won’t stretch to a full drinks menu, make sure there is a basic ‘free’ bar with bubbly and a non-alcoholic choice.
2 Entertainment But Without The TackinessIt may fill you with horror to have ‘wedding entertainers’ but frankly, there are times when your wedding guests will appreciate it!There are some great ideas to keep all your wedding guests happy from children to adults. Here are just a few ideas:

  • Illusionist – there is a difference between a magician and illusionist. Illusionists tend to do what is known as ‘large’ magic that invites people to try and work out how it’s done. They don’t have to put on a show but approach people as they sit at tables or enjoy the bar. A great illusionist can entertain people for hours! They work well with both children and adults.
  • Caricature artists – a caricature is where an artist draws a picture that exaggerates a feature.  They can be excellent keepsakes of your day with an artist providing impromptu drawings for guests. A great hit with kids and adults alike.
  • Games – board games for kids to play, decks of cards strewn about, outdoor games and kit for both kids and adults invite people to have a game or two. A terrific way for your guests to mingle, you don’t have to buy some of these items as some retailers will hire them out, or have a word with your local costume hire and party shop.
  • Party bags for children – quite often it is children who get very bored at weddings. Whereas adults may be happy to sit and chat, children need to be occupied. Why not create your own wedding party bags for young guests, complete with age appropriate toys, gifts and games?

3 Be Good HostsYou have to recognise that a three-hour photo shoot with your chosen wedding photographers on the beach may sound idyllic but it leaves your guests high and dry. If you have specific photo shoot in mind, why not complete the shots after your wedding rather than abandoning your guests for too long on the day?
4 Create Quiet Areas TooNot everyone enjoys loud music and so having spaces where people can retreat to is a fantastic way of ensuring that your guests are catered for.
Although your wedding day is all about you as a couple, ensuring your guests are happy will mean you’ll bolster your other important relationships on your special day too.
