Summer vs Winter: When Should You Get Married?

Summer vs Winter: When Should You Get Married?

Getting engaged is such an exciting time in your life. Looking forward to the day that you and your love get to tie the knot is wonderful, but of course, there is all of the planning required first to make sure the big day comes together perfectly.

There are many big decisions to make, but one of the biggest is where and when to get married! Choosing a date can either be a no brainer, or a bit tricky, depending on your circumstances, but not to worry as we are here to run through some of the points to consider when choosing whether to get married in the summer or the winter time.

Temperature

The temperature trends for the month you plan on marrying are rather important if for example, you find the idea of a winter wedding romantic, but in actual fact can’t stand the cold.

If you’re going to be shivering and miserable on your wedding day, then perhaps you should rethink the practicality. Similarly, think about how well you cope with heat and whether or not you’d be able to bear wearing a suit or a wedding dress on a scorching summer’s day!

Discuss with your partner what their preference is too as, after all, the day is about you both so it’s important that you’re comfortable.

Availability

It’s worth checking with any vendors that you have your heart set on whether they are going to be available.

If you have found the perfect wedding photographer to capture your day but they’re booked up all summer you may have to consider either having a winter wedding instead or maybe extending your engagement so you can book in nice and early for the following year. There are many pros and cons to a long engagement, as explored in this article from Bridal Guide.

Similarly, make sure that there are no big clashing events in the calendars of your most important guests, and try to avoid any periods where you know that you or your partner tend to be extra busy with work.

Budget

We spoke to Lake District Country Hotels who have beautiful country house hotels and host a great many beautiful weddings each year, and they told us “we get plenty of people booking their wedding day with us in the winter time, as not only is it the perfect opportunity to have a cosy winter wonderland theme, but often you’ll pay a lower premium for your vendors during the winter season.”

If you do want to get married in the summer, then perhaps this something to bear in mind so that you can get thrifty in other ways to keep your budget on track. There are plenty of really creative ways to do this, so don’t let that put you off. Check out this article from The Knot which should give you plenty of ideas!

We hope this has given you some inspiration if you are in the process of making a decision on which season to get married! There is a lot to think about, but it will all come together and your wedding day will be the best day of your life.
