Happy & Relaxed Summer Boat Trip Wedding

Happy & Relaxed Summer Boat Trip Wedding

WWW readers Lucy and Ross married back in the summer in pretty Bath with a boat trip after their meal. They were concious of keeping costs down and planned a relaxed and DIY day. They had friends and family arrange the flowers and make the cake.

They kept their look relaxed too, with Ross wearing a waistcoat and shirt with no tie, while Lucy looked gorgeous in a dress by Monsoon which only cost her £60. The maids looked pretty in nude dresses while their sweet son wore a bow tie. Wonderful.

Thanks so much to Nikki Sheffield for sharing her lovely images with us today.

The Proposal… Christmas eve 2012 after we had eaten our dinner, Ross offered me a chocolate from the tin… I opened it and inside was a ring! When I turned around Ross was on one knee… I asked him if he was joking! I said yes obviously!

The Vision for the Day… Vintage, bunting, relaxed and happy.

The Planning Process… There wasn’t a lot of planning.  I text Ross one morning saying shall we get married the before our week off in July and he text back yes and he rung the registry office and booked the date. I wasn’t keen on getting married in 2013 because of the number 13… but I chose the date 13th July hoping that two number thirteen’s would be lucky! I think we only had 5 months between booking the date and the big day, it was nice as we just got everything sorted! Don’t think I could have coped with years of planning!

Budget… We didn’t have a budget as such – but we are both huge bargain hunters and love boot Sales and charity shops, so we didn’t want to spend a huge amount!

The Venue… Bath Guildhall for the ceremony, Bathwick Boatman Restaurant in Bath for the reception, with a boat trip in between!

The Dress + Accessories… My dress was a bargain from Monsoon – only £60! My headpiece was from a lovely bridal shop in Cheltenham and my shoes are Irregular choice, which I love!

Finding the Dress… On a random shopping trip in Bristol, I saw it and loved it and it was the perfect fit so I had to buy it… My bridesmaid was not impressed as she wanted to be with me!

Groom’s Attire… Ross wore a waistcoat from Orvis and trousers and shirt from Debenhams –  he wasn’t keen to spend much money and wanted something he could wear again.  After the ceremony he changed into shorts and flip flops as it was so hot!

The Readings + Music… We spent a long time choosing our favourite songs for the ceremony…however we had a technical glitch and had to have the standard classical music!… funnily enough after all the effort spent choosing the songs no one noticed any difference!  We went on a boat trip after our wedding meal and each guest had chosen a song for us to play during the journey.

Beautiful Bridesmaids… My two best friends from university Louise and Cara took on the role of bridesmaid – Throwing me an amazing ‘Life drawing’ hen party.  They both did speeches after the meal and made everyone cry and laugh! Their dresses were from Boho in Bath – another sale bargin!

The Flowers… Our beautiful bouquets and button holes were made by my mum who is a wedding flower arranger. The roses were amazing and smelt beautiful.  She weaved buttons into the bouquets as an extra touch.

The Cake… Ross’s friend in work offered to make our cake and cupcakes, she did a brilliant job, we kept the top layer for our little boys christening which was a month after the wedding. I made the bunting and bird decorations myself.

Your Photographer… Nikki Sheffield was our photographer, she was so relaxed and lovely – she even managed to make Ross pose for photos which he swore he wouldn’t do!

The Details + Decor… A family friend made lengths of bunting made from lace we found at a carboot sale.  We used slate hearts as name places written on with chalk.  The little people had bags with snacks and toys in to keep them entertained during the day.

The Honeymoon… We had a ‘Familymoon’! with our little boy who just turned one – We rented a beautiful villa in Spain and relaxed by the pool when he napped!

Memorable Moments… The boat trip! After we had finished our meal we took our guests on a boat trip up the river to Bathhampton and back.  It was so lovely, we all managed to cool down as it was such a hot day!

Advice for Other Couples… You don’t have to spend a ton of money to have a beautiful, relaxed and fun day!
