Rustic DIY Budget Barn Wedding | Whimsical Wonderland Weddings

Christine proposed to Gareth on leap day and planned their wedding day over 18 months.

They had a budget of £5000 and wanted a really chilled out day. They DIY'd many elements of their wedding to keep costs down, arranging their own flowers and making bunting.

There were so many personal touches, such as the song which Gareth wrote for Christine which sounded so very romantic. Such a beautiful couple.

Thanks so much to Matt Ethan for sharing his wonderful photographs with us today.

The Vision for the Day... We just wanted something chilled out, and basically a big party. We're really chilled out and we love going to see live bands so we new that would be a big part of the day.

The Dress + Accessories... It was Benjamin Roberts 2261 - I looked on www.preloved.co.uk, took a road trip to Shropshire, and got an amazing price of £500 (new £1500), I also added some little flourishes to dress, mainly the material over the shoulders (done by a seamstress, not me!). With it being preloved, I needed to get it adjusted.

The Details + Decor... Because Gareth is a musician himself ( http://buff.ly/18Pcg8n ) he wrote a song, and got it recorded and cut for me - which was really amazing, and heartfelt. Because it was from Gareth's heart, it meant so, so much to me. Gareth wrote it to fit around our relationship, and every line meant something to us. I also made the bunting, and spent the whole year making, although in the end we only used about half...! Gareth says, for the amount of time it took, we might recommend people buy it in. We found the Invites from a craft fair - her artwork fit with our wedding Bethy Boots invites. Gareth made the table numbers from my Brother in law's fence! Because Gareth is a postman, I made a papier mache postbox for the wedding cards. The candles pots were from fancy yoghurts. We made the hessian sacks, and had our names on the fabric. The rings were from YAP boutique, and we had the first ones ever made! We had the imprinted with Danish symbols, because my family are Danish.

The Honeymoon... Chamanay in the Alps on a last minute deal - we used honeyfund.com because we already had all the things we needed to make home, and didn't want to expect gifts from anyone, so if people did want to give anything, then they could just add to the fund.
