When it comes to hairstyles, you can't get much more basic than the ponytail. A classic since probably the beginning of time, this two-second style is every girl's default for a bad hair day or when we simply need to keep the mane out of the way. However, we hate the idea of pigeonholing the pony into the casual hair category, especially since we know of its vast potential. One of the quickest and easiest ways to turn a simple pony into a chic 'do is by trying the ol' wrapping trick. Hair and makeup expert Emma Willis of Contour Fossa showed us how to upgrade this classic into a modern work of hair art.

1. Pull your hair back into a sleek ponytail and secure it with an elastic band.

2. Take a piece from the bottom of the pony and curl it with a small ¾"- to 1" curling iron. The smaller the barrel, the tighter the curl, which will come in handy when it's time to wrap.

3. Spray the curl with hairspray (we recommend a strong hold spray like Garnier Fructis Full Control Anti-Humidity Hairspray) and wrap it around the base of the pony. Tuck the tail under the wrapped portion or secure it under the pony with a bobby pin.

4. Spray the wrapped portion one last time to ensure staying power.
