How The Cool Kids Get Married.

How The Cool Kids Get Married.

I'm not sure you get actually get much cooler than Millie and Christopher's East End nuptials...

The pair began proceedings with a three week road trip around California - which included a stop at Coachella Festival (ALWAYS the most hip and stylish looking of all of the festivals).

They had planned a Las Vegas wedding, but Santa Barbra captured their hearts and so they married at the Court House there instead. On their return to the UK, the pair held an intimate and laid back reception in London for their closest friends and family.

A beautiful giant heart shaped wreathe, sparkling with fairy lights and adorned with tiny flowers brings a gorgeous sense of cosiness to the white walls and parquet floor of their venue, St John Bread & Wine. Where guests were served traditional British fare at long wooden tables, surrounded by candles and tulips.

Millie The Bride: Christopher and I were introduced to each other through friends, we were engaged for 11 months before we tied the knot in Santa Barbara. We planned a 3 week road trip in California with a stop in Coachella for the music festival. We had planned to get married during a pit stop in LasVegas, but we fell in love with Santa Barbra so we spontaneously wed there at the court house.

I wanted something fun, comfortable and vintage inspired that felt like me. My bright yellow heels were a vintage purchase locally. The height and colour of my heels added the necessary glamour and contrasted well with my dress, My dress was inspired by a 50's style and the shoes are 1980's which might sound like a clash...but see for yourself! The dress has a bow detail on the waist, so the only other accessory I added was my Dinny Hall pendant to add finishing touch to my look.

Christopher was totally at home in his suit which he picked out himself from Gieves and Hawkes - Savile Row.

St John Bread and Wine was the perfect size for our intimate reception of 60 people. The quality of the food and wine was very important and that influenced our decision to hold our reception at St John, on our return from the road trip. We were not looking for a wedding venue (as we married whilst on a road trip in California) but a comfortable and functional space for our wedding celebration and party.

St John's Bread and Wine is opposite Spitalfields market. It is in such a cool part of town and it has an authentic vintage East End feel to it and its minimal open space made a great backdrop for styling.

Our decor was inspired a light hearted British springtime theme. Our bold colour scheme was lead by the riot of multicolour tulips in pinks, purple and yellow, which were our key colours. The entrance wall had a fun collage of photos showing highlights from our wedding road trip. The walls were delicately lit by hand blown glass lanterns, holding tea light candles.

The centre pieces were multi coloured tulip arrangements in vintage glass jars and ceramic vases. We had a large heart wreath bound with greenery, sparkling with fairly lights and adorned with tiny flowers along the main wall. There were large jars filled with cut flowers for buttonholes (or hair) prepared for the guest to choose from. These multi coloured jars of carnations were off set by other beautiful guards lit with candles and baskets of rustic flowers by the walls.

We enjoyed the side splitting outrageous comedy acts, which took the form of speeches. During the speeches, two large confetti cannons were fired, exploding everywhere, covering the restaurant with a layer of multicoloured confetti tissue (this looked awesome!) Before the dancing began we bundled together for some group photos of the entire wedding party together, in fits of laughter - everyone fooling around - which I love. Then two of our friends stepped in to DJ for us and we danced hard till 1am.

We enjoyed a feasting menu of traditional British fare on the day. The canapés were accompanied by champagne and passed out on silver trays: Whole Crab & Mayonnaise Beetroot, Boiled Egg & Spinach Foie Gras. Our mains (Braised Lamb, Carrots & Aioli Whole Baked Fish on Green & White Vegetables) were brought on long platters to our tables for us so share, which felt wholesome and homely. The amount of food was amazing - an absolute feast and the presentation on the platters was impressive. There was also huge appealing British pies with beautiful high crust pastry and plates piled with eccles cakes. The chocolate cake was served hot still in the tin, it was a unique and laid back way of enjoying the speciality food. The wine and Champagne was amazing, St John source their own unique wines and have a collection of very special bottles to choose from.

Our photographers did a fantastic job. They were particularly creative with the use of our location and how they worked angles. For our couple shots we used a cute vintage shop next door and the historic lanes just behind the venue. We had a lot of fun doing these shots together and the mood captured was fantastic. The pictures have a unique movie like, nostalgic feel and suited the energy of our reception so well.
