Get a Salon-Quality Blowout at Home (Seriously!)

via

Nothing beats the euphoria you get from a salon visit, right? You walk out of there with fresh, pristine hair that has been blown out to perfection and you feel like you're ready to conquer the world. A few days later, you try to recreate the magic performed by your wizard of a stylist and it just doesn't seem to work. The smooth-yet-bouncy vitality is not there and your hair seems to frizz and bend in all the worst spots. Why can't you seem to get it right?! We've pondered this very same hair mystery ourselves and finally cracked the code to getting a salon-quality blowout right at home. You're welcome!

Step 1: Prep your hair with a heat protectant that will help prevent frizz and give you the smoothest blowout possible. We love Redken Satinwear 02 Prepping Blow-Dry Lotion.

Step 2: Rough dry your hair on low heat until you're 70-to-80 percent dry. Blowdrying wet hair is incredibly time consuming, so make sure you don't skip this step. You can finger comb your hair as you blowdry it or gently comb through it with a detangling paddle brush - it's up to you!

Step 3: Divide your hair into three sections and secure the pieces with hair clips. Make sure your hair is divided vertically so there's a top, middle and bottom section set aside.

Step 4: Starting with the bottom section, pull your hair a few inches from the roots and hold the section taut while you blast it with a blowdryer. This step is incredibly important as it's difficult to blowdry your roots completely when using a round brush. Otherwise, the roots retain moisture, which causes fizziness (and we don't want that!).

Step 5: After your roots have been completely dried, take a round barrel brush (the size and bristle-type depends on your hair length) and a blowdryer with a targeted nozzle. Move the brush downward through hair and follow it with your blowdryer. Make sure to point the nozzle into the hair, and not just over it.

Step 6: The final step is to blast your hair with cool air as you run your brush through it. This will help seal the style.
