Now i really don’t know how or where to start with this wonderful wedding. It is amazing.

Kyle and Sara are one super creative couple with a vision of a storybook wedding. The rain scuppered their outdoor picnic blanket ceremony, but it was so very magical none the less.

They crafted so many gorgeous pieces to decorate their day, their flower girl was a fairy, Sara wore feathers and plaits in her hair and Kyle wore a Pride and Prejudice inspired jacket. WOW.

Kyle and I always knew we weren’t going to do the typical wedding look Kyle marches to the beat of his own drum and I’m a set designer so I had big, grandiose ideas in mind. After flirting with the idea of doing a period wedding, we ultimately decided to do something a little more casual and fun. So we brainstormed and tried to think of what would fit us.

There were a few things to be certain of starting out and the rest grew from there. A woodland ceremony. I envisioned the flowergirl, Liana, as a fairy. I hoped Kyle would be open to wear a Pride & Prejudice “Darcy coat.”

Since our relationship we both felt as if we’d stepped into a storybook and decided to run with that. With that came the ideas of a picnic blanket ceremony and cocktail hour, the enchanted woodland walk, and fairytale decorations. We were on a tight budget, so wholesale and used items were the name of the game. I thrifted with my mom for days and days! We found so many great items . Our finalized theme ended up being Enchanted Woodland. For the unseen picnic ceremony and cocktail hour, I made the teacup & saucer stands, found picnic baskets and blankets. My mother and the bridal party put out the outdoor stuff while I was getting ready for the day. Then, when it surprised us with rain everyone had to rush it all inside (heavy wet blankets are no fun)! My friends were so patient and Kyle was so sweet they channelled the whole theme in a new way inside (I was totally surprised).

The recommended caterer for our venue was this place called Extreme Catering and they were really great. We made an off-the-menu request for crawfish étouffée, blackened chicken, dirty rice, and boudin sausage Chef Matt had experience with Cajun food, so he was really excited about it too. Everyone loved the food and I was happy to introduce some of my guests to étouffée (some never tried it before). In the end, Extreme Catering added our meal to their wedding menu.

Notable DIY Items

Bridesmaid Accessories: The lace crowns and heart “bouquet” were lovingly made by the mother of the bride, I made each of the bridesmaid a different necklaces with fairy tale charms I found.

The flowers we ordered Pink Ranunculus from wholesalers FiftyFlowers.com as well as some Gypsophila and Leatherleaf from Sam’s Club. My aunt, maid of honour, and mother put together the flowers the day of. The oversized paper flowers were crafted by Kyle.

Signage: I created the invitations, program fans, and signs (excluding Bride & Groom signs—my mom found those printables).

Cake Piñata: After reading a tutorial on etsy I really wanted a wedding cake piñata, but didn’t have time to make it. Then I found this crazy neon birthday one (http://i42.tinypic.com/2nqwmyr.jpg) and my bridesmaid Rosemary offered to recover it for me!

Cake topper: My crafty Aunt Elsie saw the two pearly white birds I had for cake toppers, then made added a nest, pearls, and flowers to make the cake topper (in under 30 minutes) the morning of the wedding!

Burlap votives: Bridesmaid Rosemary and Maid of Honor Aaron came over one night and helped glue burlap over these plain glass votives I got at the dollar store for .25 cents a piece! We added ribbon or lace on top and they were used to bring a cohesive element to the table vignettes.  In addition to that deal I came across some really great finds at our Goodwill and Denton Thrift (4 teacups for $1.00–oh yes).

Table Vignettes: The table themes I had were Peter Pan, Narnia, Little Red Riding Hood, Alice in Wonderland Cinderella, After scavenging through thrift stores and my stuff and my mother’s I put together these vignettes and boxed them up depending on table. I actually purchased books that matched the theme colors AND somehow correlated to our theme… there’s a Clipper Ship book, Mythology book, Field Guide to Western Birds, etc. It may sound OCD, but I blame it all on my theatre upbringing.

Hair styling: I went to see my friend/stylist Kristy Goplin (I’ve been going to her for five years!) and asked her what we could do with feathers and braids, after some trial we got it down and added strips of leather. In the end we joked that I had become a dreamcatcher.
