How to Manage Flowers for your Event

How to Manage Flowers for your Event

via

Flowers are one of the most appealing creations that can be found at an event. This past September we were extremely busy with multiple events with Northern Virginia Magazine and Fashion Centre at Pentagon City. We also did a wedding for William and Shea Wright. During their wedding I had a chance to really get hands on with our Florist Shondra Hawkes. Aren’t you typically hands on with the Florist? But of course. However, we tend to leave the actual care of a flower to the Florist. I love learning and when possible I try to shadow the partners we use just to get a better understanding of their jobs and how District Fete can better serve our clients. So for this wedding Shondra taught me a few new things that would be helpful at events. Here are some tips I wanted to share in addition to what I learned. 1.  Although we love the scent of flowers, try to avoid selecting flowers with heavy scents. If you must have flowers with a great aroma, try to use them in areas that aren’t close to guests. There are many flowers with pollen you should try to avoid as well. This alleviates setting off possible allergies from your guests. 2. To save money pick flowers that are in season and locally grown. The cost of shipment and growing flowers out of season can be pricey. 3. Be sure to receive flowers a few days before the event? Don’t be scared of flowers possibly weltering as most flowers need a few days to fully bloom. 4. Always check your flowers before the event and remove petals that are starting to die. 5. To have your flowers looking fresh, especially for outdoor events, choose those that continually draw water. A Florist like Shondra can help you with this. 6. When deciding on what floral arrangement to have at events, remember tall or short arrangements can go on tables where people sit. This allows guests to see each other. Medium sized arrangements can go in places such as your card or buffet tables. Here are some flowers we simply love off our Pinterest page.
