How To Be The Perfect Host

If you have ever been to my home you know that I love entertaining. To be honest I live for every chance I get to play the perfect host with great company. Yes entertaining comes with my career as an Event Planner, but there is something about being a host and making others feel special that sends me into ecstasy.

Granted I don’t get the time to always play host, but as I tell my friends, you make time for the things you want to do in life. Over the years I’ve realized that I could plan all the events in the world with the most over the top themes. However, those events are meaningless without the memories that are derived from them. These events allow me to facilitate these memories each time I serve as a host. To be honest, it’s not that difficult to make your events at home memorable. It’s the simple touches and attention to detail that you need to serve as the perfect host. Here are a few tips to aid you in being the perfect host at your next intimate event. 1. Timing is everything. I’m currently planning a party for the New Year which I’ve already had to reschedule. Why? Because I want everyone invited to be there. At times it can be a juggling act to get everyone on the right schedule, but with advance warning it’s possible. Timing also involves you having enough prep time to pull everything together. Don’t wait until the last minute to place orders or get things organized. Start as soon as you send out the invite if not before. 2. I really love putting together themed events. Yes you too can have one at your home as the perfect host. If it’s in a particular season use colors, flowers and seasonal food to help inspire you. It doesn’t have to be over the top, just make it count. If you are able to rent flatware and stemware for your event I highly recommend it over anything else. 3. Food is a must if you are throwing an event. I recommend picking your main course and building from there. If you are making the food and not catering be sure you give yourself enough time to cook and get your home ready. For new recipes please try them out a few days before your event to make sure you keep your title as perfect host for serving delicious food. 4. Lastly, hospitality is key. Have you ever been to someone’s home who is hosting an event and you had to go on a scavenger hunt to find a cup or the bathroom? How about feeling alone because you didn’t know anyone there? A perfect host will properly introduce you to everyone, point out where everything is and make you feel at home. A guest should walk away feeling inspired and have met a few new friends. Don’t forget to give out small thank you gifts. Are you the type who loves being the perfect host? What do you love most about it? Are there any tips you would like to share?
