Colour Story: Poppy & Violet

Colour Story: Poppy & Violet

With the summer ending here in SA and leaves all over the swimming pool, it's got me thinking about the richer autumn shades and berry tones, so I thought I would revisit one of my favourite colour combinations from last year, poppy red and violet. There's something so irresistable about these two together - the soft purple and then the punch of vibrant red has the perfect mix of calm and zing. Here's the original board:

At the moment there are a new wave of GORGEOUS orchid coloured wedding gowns on the runways, and I'd love to see a bride in this colour, but of course it works just as well for your pretty maids all in a row. Or why not have mixed berry shades - lots of examples of this pretty look here. The key is to have a soft backdrop of white and African violet, and then liven it up with those pops of vibrant red. You can complement the violet with darker berry shades - no need to get too pedantic as long as they're in the same range, but do try to keep the red bright and true.
