The Roost: A quirky East London wedding venue

Written by: louise

Earlier this year, when scouting venues for a styled shoot, I stumbled across The Roost (thanks to Coco Wedding Venues!) a quirky venue in London's Hackney. A far cry from other London venues - this is neither traditional or a blank canvas - The Roost is simply very cool!Located in a quiet residential area of up-and-coming Hackney, former East End pub is the perfect space for a creative couple looking for something totally unique! Used primarily as a photographic & film location, The Roost is crammed with vintage furniture and props {hello amazing chaise longue and giant metal letters!}, that add fun and character to any celebration! There's a range of rooms - from the almost formal fireplace and bookcases of the Ground Floor lounge & bar, rough exposed brick walls of the attic rooms, to spaces covered in quirky, bright wallpapers!

Somewhat a hidden gem, I'm delighted to share this fabulous venue with you today. I invited Steph from The Roost to tell us more ~

The Roost is a four floor Victorian pub built in 1863 with many beautiful original features. It is decorated with an eclectic mix of wall finishes and statement wallpapers and filled with vintage furniture, unusual props & bold art work. The venue has a cosy homely feel with big fireplaces on the ground floor and large French doors opening onto an attractive planted garden. Large windows provide good natural light throughout the ground and upper floors and there is a large basement that can be used for evening entertainment. The overall design is eccentric but unpretentious. It has an air of faded grandeur that is striking but informal plus it has a great mix of both modern and retro features. People like it because it is unusual, random and full of character but relaxed enough to allow you to stamp your own personality for a wedding reception or event. It is rented on a dry hire basis so you can be as creative and inventive as you like with the space. There are four floors for your guests to discover which can be used for different aspects of the day. You can bring in all your own suppliers or we have many contacts for fantastic people we have worked with over the years. The owners have backgrounds in design and fashion photography and have developed a good eye over the years for eye catching backdrops and props. Historically a film and photo shoot location, The Roost is styled to flatter a lens. There is no overall theme, we leave that to the client. We are not licensed for ceremonies, but Hackney Registry office is close. Sutton House is also very charming and historic and is available for licensed ceremonies. There are also many churches in the surrounding area which our couples can use. The Roost is perfect for anyone with an imagination who is looking for something alternative and quirky! To find out more or arrange a viewing, email [email protected] or visit www.theroost.co.uk Many of our clients hire The Roost because they want to do most of the organising themselves, but if needed we offer help and advice with suppliers including some excellent preferred caterers who we work with regularly.
