Mikala and James' Country Winery Wedding - Polka Dot Bride

Mikala and James' Country Winery Wedding - Polka Dot Bride

There's nothing quite like an Australian country wedding. Nothing quite beats the sun burnt grasses, the old weathered buildings and the rusty colours. Mikala and James chose a stunning winery for their wedding day - pitching in and creating much of the decor (like the arbor they married under) themselves!

The pair grew up together, their families having been friends for a long time. They chose Its Beautiful Here to capture their wedding day.

Mikala kicked off the DIY by designing the wedding stationery herself.

Mikala chose a gown from The Babushka Ballerina with a hairpiece from Anna Campbell . She remarks, "The Babushka Ballerina in the Brisbane CBD were wonderful to work with. This was the one and only store I looked at dresses as I saw one of their dresses in a magazine and knew it was it.The fact that I was in Melbourne wasn't an issue at all. I was able to customise the Josephine gown and I flew up for the initial fitting and the final fitting. The process was really easy."

created the floral arrangements for the day, Mikala noting, "Sarah from Balflower was also really great. I just gave her some images of the look and theme we were going for and she worked her magic! My only real request was for white hydrangeas, for the remainder of the flowers she sourced the best flowers on the day from the flower market. The end result was amazing."

Mikala and James chose a Dromana winery for their wedding celebrations, noting, "Both the ceremony and reception were held at Trofeo Estate Winery. We selected this beautiful venue as it was important to us to be able to have both events at the same venue. We selected a large expanse of grass on the property where we could set up for the ceremony lined by trees just by the driveway. After it rained all morning the sun came out 2 hours before the ceremony just in time for us to walk down the aisle." The couple married under an arbour they made themselves.

For the processional, Mikala remembers ,"My youngest sister Danae played on the piano 2 songs I had selected which were a surprise to James - 'Just the Way You Are' by Bruno Mars and 'All of Me' by John Legend."

Of their photographers, Mikala tells ,"We found Its Beautiful Here through research online and when we met Kat and Scout at a little pub in South Melbourne months before the wedding we knew they would be perfect. Kat and Scout captured so many amazing memories on our special day. Many moments we may not have necessarily seen throughout the day like the delighted looks on family and friends faces during speeches, hugs and kisses between loved ones and not to mention those d-floor moves! We couldn't be more grateful for the amazing job these ladies did."

Mikala remembers, "After the ceremony guests headed inside to the beautiful winery where first drinks where served at the bar along with a beautiful 'tasting table' of locally sourced meets, cheese, antipasto etc. The winery itself has a beautiful interior which provided a wonderful relaxed feeling which is just what we were after. Guests could enjoy a drink on the balcony where we set up games on the grass." Decorations included planter boxes made by James which held potted herbs, timer discs, also made by James, hessian table runners sewn by Mikala's mother (who also made hessian pockets for the wedding invitations and hessian cones for the post ceremony rose petals!)

As favors, Mikala and James sourced local olive oil which they decanted into individual bottles for each guest. Advice cards took the place of a traditional guestbook, guests asked to leave their top tips for the newlyweds.

Mikala's mother made a naked wedding cake.

Mikala and James only had a short first dance, explaining, "Our first dance was to 'Better Together' by Jack Johnson. We really wanted to avoid the whole traditional first dance so encouraged our bridal party and guests to join in after 20 seconds or so."

Congratulations Mikala and James! Thank you for sharing your day with us! Thank you also to Its Beautiful Here for sharing today's wedding with us!
