Relaxed & Rustic Yet Traditional Yorkshire Wedding with a Lyn Ashworth Dress & Jimmy Choos | Whimsical Wonderland Weddings

It all started with a perfect Tiffany engagement ring at Midnight on Christmas Eve, how dreamy!

Andy and Flippy married on the 15th February 2014 at the The Priory Cottages, Yorkshire. It was important to them that they kept many of the traditional elements of a wedding whilst having a rustic relaxed feel to their décor. Hessian, logs and bunting looked wonderful alongside that scrumptious dessert table.

Flippy's swishy romantic Lyn Ashworth dress looked wonderful with her Jimmy Choo heels and the bridesmaids wore vivid blue frocks with baby breath bouquets. Divine.

Thanks so much to the brilliant John Hope for sharing his photographs with us today.

THE PROPOSAL | Midnight on Christmas Eve at Flippy's parents' house - I tucked a Tiffany Ring inside a new pair of Ugg Boots.

THE VISION | We wanted it to be as relaxed as possible, but as time went on we realised that we wanted to respect plenty of the traditional sides as well. We chose The Priory Cottages because we wanted to be able to personalise it as much as possible, and give our closest friends and family the comfort of staying at the venue itself in as homely a setting as possible. The personalisation element of it included the heart shapes and fairy lights throughout the venue, as well as the long burning candles in the window enclaves in the barn and heart shapes on the guests' seats. We also made all our own save the dates, invites and orders of service too.

In keeping with a relaxed feel, we wanted a rustic come vintage come shabby chic theme. The centre pieces featured a collection of old books that my nan used to send away for, so this was a lovely way of having her as part of the wedding. As well as this, we had polaroid effect photos and names for place settings, and flowers which were as understated as possible- Twisted Willow provided the flowers and did an immense job!

THE PLANNING PROCESS | It began to fall into place when we booked the venue - soon after we met our photographer (John Hope) - who was amazing throughout and gave us a lot of confidence in that he had shot at the venue before and knew how to get the most from it! From there, we were able to think in more depth about the finishing touches that we would put into the venue.

THE VENUE | The Priory Cottages, Sythingwaite. It is set in the surrounds of gorgeous countryside which is what we both wanted, far way from the hustle and bustle of a city centre.

The priory encapsulated all that we wanted from a venue, big enough to house all our guests yet small enough to feel personal and appropriately intimate. What we liked best was being able to have the whole venue to ourselves, with family and friends being able to stay in the connected cottages, it was prefect!

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | Lyn Ashworth, 'Fiona.' Jimmy Choo 'Isabelle' Shoes. Tifanny 'Tifanny Setting' engagement ring and Wedding Band.

Flippy's make up was done by Beckie Stirk who was very professional and lovely on the day. She was amazing at doing the make-up of the girls. Flippy's close friend Emilie Smithston did her and the bridesmaids hair.

FINDING THE DRESS | Bought in Scotland - Flippy went for a day of trying on - she found Fiona in the first shop she went to, and after 3 or so more shops, she knew she had already made the decision. Went back to get Fiona the following day.

GROOM'S ATTIRE | Classic grey with ocean blue ruche. Brown shoes.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | Laugh At Yourself, Always Love Each Other, On the Road Again (all by Patience Strong - from a poetry book of Flippy's Great Aunt who has passed away).

Kendal String Quartet played a medley of songs when canapés were being served - and Somewhere Over the Rainbow to walk down the aisle to. Ho Hey by The Lumineers was the first dance.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | Charis Bass, Leah Brown, Katrina Lomas.

Bridesmaids had gifts of scrabble art made by flippy, with words that she felt described them and a little picture of flippy and each of them in the frame. She had great fun getting the scrabble pieces and putting it all together and the girls loved them.

THE FLOWERS | Twisted Willow were the providers (Ripon). Plenty of Baby's Breath and Hessian.

THE CAKE | Three layers of cake from the Cheeseboard, York - Cornish Yarg, Cranberry Wensleydale, Mexican Firecracker and a Goat's Cheese to top it off.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | John Hope. The photographer was amazing, all the guests commented on how hard he work, he was up on chairs and down on the floor capturing every single detail of the day. John himself is very personable and this put us immediately at ease. He had shot the venue a number of times before and so he knew many of the great shots available. In choosing John as our photographer we were drawn to his artistic talent and his ability to capture naturally all that was going on. We would recommend him to anyone, he really is a true professional and hard worker. John also did a number of couple shots prior to our wedding, this was really really helpful given that my husband is somewhat camera shy. Indeed it allowed us to build up more rapport together which carried on through to the wedding.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | The Desert Table- all home made flapjacks, cakes, as well as liquorice, sugar mice, cupcakes, home made cake and Oreo pops. Photo booth at the end of the night.

Hessian tablecloths we made ourselves with champagne ribbon around it. Rustic wood rounds to base as the centrepieces. Bunting - home made.

THE HONEYMOON | Mini moon in NYC and then 10 Days in Lake Louise, Canada (still to come).

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | The ceremony was beautiful - having the string quartet playing such a beautiful song was the best moment of my life. Somewhere over the rainbow was played as my Flippy entered.

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Get the venue and photographer booked - a brilliant photographer can make all the difference for advice and so on. Once the venue is booked, it's easy to visualise where things can go and how you want things to be.
