No Eyeliner Required: Smoky Eye

No Eyeliner Required: Smoky Eye

It's probably safe to say that the smoky eye made its way into the MDC Hall of Fame years ago. From classic, smoldering charcoal to a glowing jewel tone, there are so many directions you can take with this sultry look. We've had so much fun trying out different variations of the smoky eye and have no plans to stop. We decided to dedicate our fourth and final installment of the no-eyeliner required series to this bold look. Makeup artist Emma Willis for Contour Fossawas kind enough to show us how to create a classic smoky eye without picking up (or even glancing at) an eyeliner. You know what they say, where there's smoke ...

Step 1. Apply matte foundation and cover up any blemishes or imperfections with concealer.

Step 2. Add some color to the face by applying a peach or pink cheek stain along the cheekbone and blend in. Willis used Giorgio Armani Maestro Fusion Blush in 500. Add some shimmer by applying highlighter to the apples of the cheeks.

Step 3. Using a flat shadow brush apply a black, cream-based shadow (we love Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo Leather in Dramatic Black) along the upper lash line to the middle of the lid - don't hit the crease. Use a fluffy shadow brush to buff out the shadow to the crease. The shadow color should look like a gradual increase in pigment and be darker along the lash line. MDC Quick Tip: Apply some shadow to the root of your lashes to make sure there are no " bald spots" on the eye and that the area is completely covered.

Step 4. Apply black shadow to the corner of the lower lash line and buff the color inward toward the middle of the lash line.

Step 5. Using a clean, fluffy crease brush, work a dark brown matte shadow in the outer crease of the eye. Lightly blend it toward the middle to make sure it blends seamlessly and there are no distinct lines.

Step 6. Dust the entire bottom lash line with the dark brown shadow.

Step 7. Line the lips with a natural-colored lip liner and swipe on a nude lip gloss like L'Oréal Paris Colour Riche Lip Gloss in Nude Illusion.
