Wihan & Maretha's Diamant Estate Wedding - Wedding Friends

via

On this beautiful Monday morning, Wedding Friends is proud to share with you Wihan & Maretha's Diamant Estate Wedding. The Western Cape is known for its idealistic and mountain view weddings and this one fits the profile perfectly. The day was captured by Michelle Joubert-Martin Photography and Michelle had a blast photographing this couple. Start of your week with some inspiration and see what Wedding Friends can offer you today!

I said Yes | How did the proposal go down.

We were lucky enough to get engaged during a weekend away at Struisbaai - with all of our mentioned friends present off course. We talked about getting engaged for a while and even went to see a designer about a ring... but the actual proposal and everything that went along with it, completely took me by surprise. Wihan timed everything perfectly and it was the most special experience to share this day with our friends, as both our families live really far away. We spent the day at Cape Agulhas, where the Atlantic and Indian oceans meet (quite the metaphor for our engagement).

I Propose | Elaborate on how the two of you met.

Wihan often says he believes that our relationship is ordained - and I have come to believe this too. We met in 2004 on our very first day at university, never took much notice of each other until we saw each other again at a wine festival in Durbanville in 2012 - 8 years later. Neither one of us wanted to go, so we were both dragged there by our friends. I for one, am very glad that we have such persistent, wine-loving friends as Wihan now claims that he knew we were going to be married from the second we saw each other on that day. We have certainly been inseparable since what is now known as "THAT" day.

The Big Day | Tell us the most memorable moment of your wedding day.

There were so many memorable moments! However an unexpected one was that most of our friends ended up swimming in a fountain on the venue, the sign of which specifically says "no swimming"!

I Quote | Describe in one sentence your wedding day.

Both of us agreed that we didn't want a traditional wedding, so out of this goal and limitation was born our wedding theme - cape town wine festival meets cocktail party meets vintage style picnic. I really didn't care whether the flowers were pink or blue - I just wanted to be able to look back at the wedding and say - that was awesome!

Forever & Always | Any advice for future brides.

Remember that the day is about you getting married to your soul mate, the person you will actually have to spend the rest of your life with. Do not let the little things come between you during the planning phase. Fighting is normal, but remember that your partner also has expectations of the day itself and will serve your relationship well to keep this in mind.
