A rooftop wedding in New York? We were so excited when we saw Farnaz K Studio's mail pop up in our inbox.

And then we we discovered Sukanya and Neville's wedding day was a chic, vibrant, modern Indian celebration with an abundance of blooms, beautiful attire, and two beautiful ceremonies.

Suddenly the Manhattan views were just the icing on the (Laduree macaron) wedding cake.

The ever-so-stylish Meatpacking District rooftop of Ramscale Studio was a cool yet sophisticated setting for Sukanya and Neville's Hindu and Zoroastrian ceremonies.

Then it was inside for an elegant buffet feast under a canopy of lanterns, as Neville changed from his traditional attire, into his military dress for a night of dancing and taking in the river views with his stunning new wife.

Both cosmopolitan and traditional, vibrant and intimate, and utterly romantic and beautiful throughout, Farnaz K Studio has captured this wedding in all uniqueness.

And the results are pretty spectacular...

Our Wedding in Three Words

Vibrant, unconventional, intimate.

The Decor

We had four urns of flowers that enclosed the ceremonial space and a cascading garland in the background. The urns were moved into the inside space before dinner began. In Indian weddings, the bride and groom traditionally sit on the floor and I wanted the cushions surrounding us to coordinate, so I I loved the layout of our venue. It allowed partial outdoor seating for the reception and there was lounge seating that was left in place as well. purchased raw silk in the colors of my choice and my Mom sewed cushion coverings about a week before the wedding. I chose Farnaz K because of her expertise in fashion photography. She is not a conventional wedding photographer but has a substantial wedding portfolio. I knew her shots would bring a unique perspective.

The Photography

My attire was custom made by Shyamal & Bhumika. I saw a few of their runway pieces, which I modified. The saree I wore for the Hindu ceremony was inspired by Van Cleef and Arpels Alhambra collection, and had a hand embroidered quatrefoil motif throughout the body. The saree I wore for the Parsi ceremony was originally done in black, but was made in ivory for me. My shoes were Rene Caovilla.

The Attire

We had a world renowned flutist and tabla player, V.K. Raman, play during the ceremony and cocktail hour.

The Music

Vibrant hues (coral, fuschia) aligned with the festive tone of traditional Indian weddings. The flowers used in the decor were a combination of roses and peonies with emphasis placed on our color scheme. Centerpieces were peonies in salmon, coral, or pink. I sent Martin Jobes Design an image of floral decor from a hotel in Positano, Italy (Il San Pietro di Positano) that encapsulated what I wanted-abundance, vibrancy, and cascades.

The Flowers

With two Indian ceremonies (Hindu and Zoroastrian), the day was long, so we served heavy appetizers and Indian "street food" in between ceremonies and Our cake was a Laduree macaron cake comprised of the classic pistachio and rose macarons. again during cocktail hour before a buffet dinner. I loved the abundance of flowers. The corals and fuschias were spectacular. Indoor/outdoor seating allowed a flow that brought a casualness to the evening. Seeing Neville in his military suit was my favorite part.

Isn't it glorious? I just love how beautiful wedding sarees are, their vibrancy with the abundance of the florals is just so rich and opulent.
