Ask The Bridal Guru: School Fight Song at My Wedding? | MS Bridal Guru

Dear The Bridal Guru,

Both my fiancée and I are Ole Miss Rebel alumni and huge fans. We are getting married in Oxford, MS and we are having the Ole Miss colors for our wedding colors. I want the Rebel fight song played during our wedding. My mother thinks not because we are having a church wedding. What is your opinion?

Ole Miss Rebel Bride

Dear Ole Miss Rebel Bride,

I have to agree with your mother, particularly since your ceremony is in a church. A church is a place of worship and a sacred place. Many churches have strict rules about the music that can be played in their house of worship. First, you need to check with the church and the church rules.

My recommendation is for the band or DJ to play the Rebel fight song as you make your grand entry into the wedding reception. You will be announced as Mr & Mrs Rebel Fans and then the two of you to enter with the fight song playing loudly and your guests cheering. Instead of carrying your bouquet, you can carry red and blue pompoms and be waving those. In fact, you can have pompoms for your guests to be waving as you walk into the reception hall. Your guests could even form a two lines and you will enter walking between your guests waving pompoms and cheering you congratulations and well wishes. What a great way to begin the party!

The guests waving pompoms will also make great photographs for you leaving at the end of the reception. Imagine running through your guests waving pompoms of the school colors with the fight song playing in the background. So you can enter and leave with the Ole Miss Rebel Fight Song....at the reception, not at the church.

Best wishes!
