Woodland Farm Glamping & Festoon Lights Wedding

Woodland Farm Glamping & Festoon Lights Wedding

Hanna and Paul were married on the 14th June 2014 at the beautiful Hawthbush Farm i n East Sussex. They held their humanist ceremony in the woods and included some really personal and meaningful readings.

I for one just adore this day, the location, the weekend glamping and relaxed atmosphere. There were delightful floral arrangements, pretty maids in pink and yellow and festoon lights galore.

Hanna made the most gorgeous bride in her sequin dress and pretty hair style while Paul opted for a light grey three piece suit. So dreamy!

Thanks so much to My Beautiful Bride for sharing these sensational images this morning.

THE PROPOSAL | We were on holiday in Mexico and were at the end of our two-weeker at Laguna Bacalar. It was our last day there before heading back to Mexico City to fly home. We went kayaking early afternoon. Paul kept insisting we head further and further out which was unusually as he really dislikes kayaking as it's so tiring (though Hanna loves it). We later found out that he wanted to go far out so he wouldn't be overheard and because he kept waiting for the sun to come out from behind the clouds. Eventually, tired, we stopped in the kayak and were floating for a while when Hanna spontaneously started singing 'Don't Stop me Now' by Queen. This is a song she has always said she'd walk down the aisle to. Paul knew the moment was right and asked her if she wanted to get married. Hanna said yes! Then the kayaking back to shore commenced!

THE VISION | We wanted a day that felt both special and relaxed in its energy. We didn't want to get married somewhere that was a conveyor belt of weddings, but somewhere we could make our own. We wanted something simple that we could add our own touches to

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We are a perfect team - it was essentially a 50-50 division of labour. Hawthbush Farm was the second venue we visited.

It was perfect because: There was glamping and chic caravans on the farm for close friends to stay. A more robust farm house for family to stay in. We had the farm for the whole weekend, meaning it felt more of an experience than an in and you're out jobby with other weddings we've experienced - including having a BBQ for friends and family staying on the farm on the Friday night before the wedding. It had a clearing for us to get married in outdoors in the woods.

Other than that, there wasn't much 'planning' and we think we might have left a lot to the last minute.

THE VENUE | Hawthbush Farm in East Sussex - stunning!

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | After a day spent in boutique wedding dress shops on a Saturday with her mum and sister, Hanna was exhausted from the very idea of any more wedding dress shopping, though she had discovered she liked a 20s/30s silhouette to her dress. Roann her sister (and Chief Bridesmaid) told her they ought to go to a vintage wedding fair at Battersea Arts Centre that was on the next day (Sunday). Reluctantly Hanna agreed to go and they brought fellow bridesmaid Alexis along too. After milling around for a bit, Hanna saw something sparkly catch her eye - to find a beautiful dress entirely covered in sequins. She knew it was the one! At once understated and dramatic - not many people get married head to toe in sequins!

GROOM'S ATTIRE | A tailored light grey three piece suit!

THE READINGS & MUSIC | We had a cappella singing group The Treblemakers singing before and during the ceremony and then at the reception. They were awesome! They also sang Hanna down the aisle to Don't Stop Me Now by Queen - as she had always hoped for.

The humanist ceremony took place in the woods at the edge of the farm. Hanna's mum is Algerian, so one of the readings was a love poem in Arabic read by Hanna's mum, Fatima, Hanna's uncle Juba and Hanna's aunty Samia. Other readings included Andrew Boyd (a groomsman) reading a quote from the film Frieda (an unconventional reading!). Included here for information http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120679/ quotes :

I don't believe in marriage. No, I really don't. Let me be clear about that. I think at worst it's a hostile political act, a way for small-minded men to keep women in the house and out of the way, wrapped up in the guise of tradition and conservative religious nonsense. At best, it's a happy delusion - these two people who truly love each other and have no idea how truly miserable they're about to make each other. But, but, when two people know that, and they decide with eyes wide open to face each other and get married anyway, then I don't think it's conservative or delusional. I think it's radical and courageous and very romantic. To Diego and Frida.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | Hanna had her younger sister Roann as Chief Bridesmaid, and then three others, university friends Alexis and Miriam and friend from her masters, Trish.

THE FLOWERS | All the flowers were picked the day before the wedding from a field adjacent to the farm. They wear amazing! The only instructions given by Hanna were 'please can we have pink and yellow flowers included'. They were delivered on the day and it was the first time any of us lay eyes on them! We were very relaxed as you can see! They were AMAZING!

THE CAKE | Hanna doesn't like icing so we went for a 'naked' cake with cream in between the layers of sponge and berries for decoration. It was delicious sponge, so yummy and moist, and suited the general tone for the day.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Michael from My Beautiful Bride was OUTSTANDING! He comes highly recommended for anyone who wants photos that capture the essence of an experience, who likes the detail of the day as well as the overall story of the day recorded and who wants a photographer that seamlessly blends in. He really was exceptional. His photos are the ultimate evidence, but he was also a really lovely person to have around on the day for all those intimate moments. Perfect.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | We simply had bunting up in the barn - our décor was very limited to be honest.

THE HONEYMOON | Three amazing weeks in Indonesia - from jungle and orang-utans in Sumatra, to time spent on Lake Toba to the paradise that is Lombok finishing it off with a couple of days in Singapore on a short City Break before heading home. A great trip!
