When you honeymoon in Cape Town, you certainly won't lack for things to see and do! This cultural and social hub of South Africa is filled with vibrant culture, world-class restaurants, and natural splendor. Here are 10 terrific activities for your Cape Town vacation!

Victoria & Alfred Waterfront

You two could easily spend an entire day here. Take a ride on the Cape Wheel, eat at one of the many cafes, and do some serious window shopping. You can even cruise around the harbor on a tour, giving you an opportunity to fill your Instagram feed with pictures of this beautiful neighborhood.

Apartheid History

While South Africa's traumatic history is hardly romantic, it would still be a shame not to stop by some of the many important museums near Cape Town. Make sure to go to Robben Island (the former prison now turned into a UNESCO World Heritage Site) to visit Nelson Mandela's cell, where he lived for nearly two decades. Also recommended is the District Six Museum, which focuses on everyday life during apartheid.

Table Mountain

Looming over Cape Town's skyline, it would be impossible to miss Table Mountain. Adventurous and outdoorsy couples can hike to the top. While it's not difficult, it will take an average of 5-6 hours round-trip to accomplish. You can also take rock climbing tours with experienced local guides. If this all sounds like too much work (and we don't blame you), there is a tram that takes you to the top.

Relax on Long Street

A friendly, boho neighborhood that transforms into a party atmosphere after the sun goes down, a trip to Cape Town isn't quite complete without a stop at Long Street. Lined with Victorian-style buildings, Long Street is perfect for the couple looking to have a laidback afternoon in the city. Once evening approaches, stay around for a cocktail in one of the bars and listen to live music.

Local Vineyards in Constantia Valley

Right outside of the city is the Constantia Valley which is filled with gorgeous vineyards. Take an afternoon to explore and taste the world-famous wines from this region. Take cellar tours and purchase bottles directly from each winery. If you don't want to rent a car, there are a wide variety of tours available that will handle the transportation.

Foodie Paradise

It would be difficult to find a more diverse and world-class food scene than Cape Town's. With the abundance of fresh seafood, many of the restaurants have menus that center around seasonal ocean bounty. In Cape Town, you can find everything from authentic African fare to delicious Italian cuisine. Before you go, make sure you research local review sites and ask your hotel's staff which restaurants are their favorites to help you guarantee foodie success!

See the Penguins

In nearby Simon's Town you can see the penguins at Boulder's Beach and Foxy Beach. You will have to pay a modest park entry fee, but it's well worth it to see these little guys in action! Bask in the sunshine and ocean breezes. Spend the morning there, and have lunch on the way back to Cape Town.

Cape of Good Hope

Get away from the city for a day at the Cape of Good Hope. With its rocky beaches and dramatic ocean view, this park is one of the most spectacular sights in South Africa. Outdoor enthusiasts who want to do a more in-depth exploration of the area can venture on a two-day hike on the Cape of Good Hope Trail (reservations are required). To check out Cape Point, take the Flying Dutchman Funicular, a railway tram, to and from the parking lot.

Greenmarket Square

Looking for souvenirs to bring back for the fam? You'll find plenty of handmade wares at Greenmarket Square, along with fresh produce, street food, and performance artists. Go early on weekend mornings to avoid the crowds!

Events & Festivals

Between sporting events, concerts, and cultural festivals, it seems as though there is always something new and exciting going on in Cape Town. When you start making your reservations, double check the event calendars or email your hotel to find out if your visit will coincide with an event you'd be interested in attending!
