How to Switch Up Your Makeup Routine for Fall

How to Switch Up Your Makeup Routine for Fall

via

Looks like fall has made its debut and it's time to pack up our bubblegum pink lip glosses, neon-colored eyeliners and ultra-shimmery bronzers. Don't worry yourself too much, they'll be back next year! In the meantime, we're preparing ourselves - and more importantly, our makeup routines - for the joys of autumn. This means plenty of rich shadows, vampy lipstick shades and updated foundation formulas. We support any excuse to buy more makeup. Here's what you need to prepare, too!

1. Set your shimmery bronzers and blushes to the side.

Pick up a matte bronzer and highlighter so we can get to business ... contouring and strobing business, that is. Dewy skin is always in, but sparkles on sparkles is more of a summer thing. Sculpted cheekbones, a touch of highlighter (in all the right places) and a warm, fall flush are what you should be going for.

2. Go for bold.

By bold, we are talking lipstick, of course. Yes, you can still hang on to your classic reds and nudes, but swap out your bright oranges and pinks for rich and creamy shades of burgundy, plum, oxblood, brown and even violet.

3. Put the heavy makeup formulas away.

As the temps cool down, skin tends to get dry, flaky and lackluster. Instead of trying to hide behind full-coverage or chalky formulas, let your skin shine through with a tinted moisturizer or lightweight coverage option like Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation.

4. Embrace autumn shadow shades.

This rule doesn't just apply to lipstick! Fall is the perfect time to embrace richer eye shadow shades as well. And we don't just mean gray, brown and black - but jewel tones like emerald, plum, sapphire, ruby ... the list goes on and on!

5. Swap out your foundation shade.

Unfortunately, your golden summer tan won't last forever. Which means your skin tone may change as your complexion settles into sunshine-less fall. Have a color-match test done at a beauty counter to ensure that you're wearing the right shade - and not one that's a few shades too dark!
