Morning, you guys!

My goodness, I hope you ate breakfast already, 'cause this post is sure to work up some serious cravings! We're chatting to the lovely Emily's Mixing Bowl today here on Festival Brides. Combining her two long-time loves, cake and design, Emily creates utterly gorgeous wedding cakes full of locally sourced or even home-sourced ingredients to produce beautiful wholesome delights...

...I mean, are you hungry yet?! Because I sure am!

I'm Emily and I spend most of my days designing and creating handcrafted wedding cakes from my kitchen in East Sussex. In my spare time I love to go on countryside walks with my husband and our springer spaniel. I also enjoy keeping bees, gardening and love anything creative.

Scandifest looks like my kind of festival. Or really anything relaxing, lazing in the sunshine with lots of delicious food to taste.

After a lifelong love affair with baking and design I combined my two passions and my business was born. I studied graphic design at Central Saint Martins art college which nurtured my creativity. After that I went on to work as a pastry chef and then onto being a head chef which gave me experience in a professional food environment. I learned to perfect pastry, baking, macarons and experimented with making things like marshmallows, honeycombe and biscuits with any chance I got!

I started making wedding cakes when my brother and sister-in law got married as well as my own wedding cake which went down a storm. After this I began being approached to make wedding cakes for other people, it has grown from there.

I work closely with couples to design and make their dream wedding cake. I love combining new and exciting flavours such as chocolate and cardamom or lavender and honey as well as the classics such as vanilla sponge with raspberry jam or lemon drizzle with fresh zesty lemon curd. I am very keen on sourcing my ingredients from the best local suppliers. Everything I use is made from scratch. There are so many fantastic local fruit producers on my doorstep, I use eggs from my own hens and honey from my bees.

Every wedding is so personal and unique, I love seeing and hearing about what couples want to get from their day. My favourite moment is when I get to the venue on the morning of the wedding to deliver the cake and everything is ready and looking gorgeous, it makes me so happy seeing the couple's vision and all the hard work coming together ready to be enjoyed by all their guests.

They can expect to have delicious tasting, freshly baked cake on their wedding day which looks gorgeous and tells a personal story about the couple and their wedding day.

Here's some other people's thoughts on my cakes:

"I was one of the lucky guests to have a slice (or two) of The Chocolate brownie wedding cheesecake. This was whole heartedly the most tasty cheesecake I have ever had! Just wonderful I can not rave enough over this masterpiece!" "5* And I should know, working with a Multi Michelin Starred Chef who also has 5/5 AA Rosettes!!!" "Emily made our beautiful wedding cake last year. Every layer was delicious and so tasty. We had loads of guests asking who'd made it. Really impressed. Thank you xxxx"

I'm right for you if you'd like a delicious tasting bespoke cake which has been carefully designed and handcrafted. I lean towards having a rustic, whimsical style and love using florals whether hand painted, fresh flowers or realistic looking beautiful sugar flowers. Every cake is unique. Contact me for a chat, tasters and a quote after which you will know if i'm right to make your cake.

Don't be rushed- make sure that your cake maker has spent as much time as needed talking through with you exactly what you would like. Be sure that you are confident, that you have a connection with them and they can see your vision. Make sure you ask your cake maker for tasters and see how they present these- it will give a good indication on how they run their business. Finally check for hidden extra costs before you book such as delivery or stand hire as all this can add up!

Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life

Just, YUM.

I'd like a slice of each, to-go! You can find Emily and her delicious cakes looking utterly scrumptious in our wedding directory now, go take a look!

Peace + Love

Clare XO
