Pinterest of the Week: Waves With a Twist

via

If you can't get enough of Pinterest and wish you had more time to find the best beauty looks on the photo-sharing site, this column is for you. Each week we highlight a coveted makeup technique, hairstyle or nail design with a popular following, and get the tips and tricks for creating it from the person behind the original pin. For this edition we contacted the blogger who photographed herself in this pretty hairstyle.
If you always wear your hair down and want something new, try this easy style created by blogger Cara Loren. Loren gave us a step-by-step tutorial on how to get curly waves with a twist at the front.
Step 1: Distribute a small amount of hair-smoothing oil through wet hair before blow-drying it or letting it dry naturally. Try: Kérastase Elixir Ultime.
Step 2: Spritz hair with a flexible-hold hair spray. Try: Redken Fashion Work 12 Versatile Working Spray.
Step 3: Create curls all over your head by wrapping two-inch sections of hair around a one-inch curling iron. Point the iron downward to achieve this texture. Tip: To get relaxed waves, like Loren's, create these curls two days before you plan to wear this style.
Step 4: Spritz hair with more hair spray for long-lasting texture.
Step 5: Create a deep side part.
Step 6: Pick up a two-inch section of hair at your part and split it into two.
Step 7: Twist the front section toward your face and then twist it back over the second section.
Step 8: Twist the second section toward your face and then gather a small section of hanging hair and add it to that section. Twist it again before wrapping it back over the first section. Tip: You have to twist each piece before twisting them together! It's a must for definition of the twist, Loren says.
Step 9: Continue adding hanging hair to each section of the twist, as you create it, until you reach your temple.
Step 10: Twist the two tails of the sections together until you reach the ends of your hair. Secure with an elastic.
Step 11: Wrap the twist toward the back of your head and secure with a bobby pin. Tip: Drape a section of your waves over the twist to hide the pin.
