Andrew and Michelle's Elegant Portland, OR Wedding by Powers Photography Studios

There are some weddings that you can just instantly tell were a good time. And if the fun-loving wedding party photos are any indication, Andrew and Michelle's night was filled with a lot of laughs and smiles. Michelle employed my new favorite floral trend: baby's breath as aisle decorations-clean, simple, and elegant. And although Portland brides are usually known for their more laidback style, I love Michelle's drop waist princess gown. Total glam. Thank you to our friends over at Powers Photography Studios for sharing another wedding gem with us! And please read below for Michelle's advice on wedding planning.

For my big day I really didn't have any real strict vision. I knew I wanted it to be a formal, elegant, romantic, and fun atmosphere. Growing up I didn't envision my wedding to be a winter wedding but the more and more I looked at ideas, the more drawn I was to the colors, the candlelight and just the elegance of a winter wedding. In Oregon we get a lot of rain but I remember talking to my fiancé at the time about how I swore it was always cold yet about this time of year.

I knew my colors right away (navy blue, silver and light blue) and I knew that I wanted the bridesmaids' dresses to be navy. Having that simple detail decided, I was able to shape everything around it. I have always been one to get really excited and impatient so I shop on impulse but I end up returning at least half my items. I found that I continued this into my wedding planning, but I actually feel that it helped me to compare a lot and I was able to get every single detail exactly as I wanted. I was able to pull various ideas I had come across and make it into my own.

In rainy Oregon, our winter wedding was a beautiful sunny day!

Well, it was winter and my brother was flying in from Kentucky when the snow was taking over the country. His layover flight was delayed and he missed our ceremony. When I heard the news that he wasn't going to make it I was devastated, but the show must go on and I still had my two other brothers there and an aunt who was willing to step in. When my brother finally arrived at the reception (right before we were going to make our grand entrance) he walked in and according to him, received a standing ovation.

I pretty much had my hands in everything but didn't feel overbearing. I wanted all the details to complement each other. I chose my colors and then my dress which was full and had rosettes in the skirt. For my tables I used vases of various heights to create dimension. I wanted full flowers (like my dress), so I choose hydrangeas and lots of baby's breath along with hundreds of floating candles, votive candles and crystals to really get it sparkling in there.

For the cake, I wanted to do the cupcakes with a cutting cake for us. I wanted a variety of flavors (red velvet, chocolate and poppy seed) and again went with the hydrangeas. My aunt made the cake for us, it was so delicious.

For the favors, I had seen a lot of candy bars but knew that wasn't quite what I wanted and again wanted to be different. I love popcorn so I researched it and came up with an amazing popcorn bar. We got some to go boxes and people were able to choose from 8 different flavors. It was such a hit, and great little munchies for the end of the night.

Since the wedding was such a formal event, I wanted to make sure our wedding parties were able to relax and have a good time the night before. We ended up choosing to host our rehearsal dinner at a local brewery and had a pizza bar with appetizers and beer.

I think I know that he was the one when I realized that he truly accepts me for me. I can say what's on my mind do and just be my honest, true self. I had never experienced this kind of true love and I never want to let it go.

My advice to new brides is not to get too wrapped up in wedding plans right away. Decisions do not need to be right away, give yourself some time to think about what it is you truly want your day to be.
