A Kate Spade-Inspired Styled Shoot for The Editorial Wedding

A Kate Spade-Inspired Styled Shoot for The Editorial Wedding

via

Morning b.lovelies!  I’m extremely excited today to finally share the styled shoot I created for The Editorial Wedding workshop earlier this year.  Led by Gaby Frescura, editor of SouthBound Bride, and our very own Anneli Marinovich, the shoot was designed to both inspire and challenge our students to think differently about editorial style photography {after all, the aim of the workshop was to show ways to get their work published!}.  I’ll be sharing the work of some of our fabulous students this afternoon, but I just have to share the ‘official’ edit by Anneli Marinovich with you first! I’m thrilled that this shoot has also been featured in Wedding Magazine and on the amazing Ruffled blog!

Lucky for me, I was given free reign on the theme.  Taking my lead from the light and simple interiors of our venue, Cannizaro House in Wimbledon, I decided to combine ideas from two very different design inspirations, Elizabeth Messina and Kate Spade.  How, you may ask?  Read on and I’ll reveal all..

The bridal suite should be an oasis of calm and tranquillity before the excitement of the day ahead.  I used a soft cream & gold palette to create a pretty, feminine look with a contemporary edge, inspired by Elizabeth Messina’s romantic style.  Wilden Bride provided a gorgeously beaded slinky dress, along with accessories from Britten and black, blush & gold rings from Astley Clarke which would make beautiful bridesmaids gifts!

As a subtle reference to the ceremony styling, touches of black and green were brought into the details.  Brian Kirkby incorporated lush green foliage into the bouquet, and black tassels hanging from the stem and a fizzy treat of Pommery champagne with cute black & white tags by Eagle Eyed Bride.  Remember that often the bouquet is only seen during your ceremony and portrait photo’s, so it’s perfectly OK to match your bouquet to your dress and not necessarily the rest of your theme!

Moving on to the reception styling, this is where we turn up the volume!  Adding hot pink to our neutral bridal palette creates an entirely different look that still coordinates.  Romance and soft feminine style remains in the floral arrangements, which whilst bold keep a touch of whimsy.  Kate Spade-y black & white polka dots, gold lettering and hot pink details adorn the stunning stationery suite by Golden Apple Designs, a detail picked up in the XO and heart design of the cake by Sugared Saffron.  Eagled Eyed Bride created a fab gold frame and fun tassels to give the cake extra wow-factor!

The girls at Eagle Eyed Bride created tassels galore!  The incredible table escort card display hung from tasselled balloons, and sat beautifully at each place setting, whilst the bride and grooms seats were each marked with a giant balloon too.  The table styling was based on series of layers (one of my top tips for effective styling!) starting with black & white striped table linen, and hot pink runners placed across the settings.  On top of this I used gold platters and polka dot plates with simple black cutlery and gold-dipped glasses (a huge upcoming trend!).  Pink napkins are tied with gold sequin trimming to create cute bows finished with one of those amazing tasselled name cards!  Brian Kirkby designed gorgeous statement floral arrangements tying in the colours, tightly packed for a contemporary look but with lots of textures to keep it soft and romantic too.  He also created the incredible garland adorning the menu frame!

A HUGE thank you to the entire team for lending their creativity, style and talents to create an incredible shoot!

Don’t forget to pop back this afternoon to see the student’s edits!
