the new england issue: make up tutorial

Hello my glamorous b.loved lovelies, Happy New Year from Ana Ospina Make Up! Here I am again, to give you some make up inspiration for January. With the Festive Season over, the start of 2014 calls for a move away from the sparkles of Christmas and New Year {not forever of course, I am a self confessed glitter lover!}. However this New England-inspired shoot called for a clean and classic make up application for the bride that wants something sophisticated yet understated.

When designing a look for a shoot I take on board all factors in much the same way as I would a bride. This means looking her her colouring, face shape and features but also her hair, outfit and backdrop so that it all ties in together to get her look for the day. Once I saw the vintage-inspired dress Helena would be wearing, the powder blue backdrop we would be shooting against, and the soft tousled hair with a hint of a 30′s Marcel Wave the decision for make up was easy. A thirties & forties inspired look with a flawless powder matte complexion, but with add a modern twist. I have to say this look shouted 'Pearl Harbour' to me and I love it, perfectly complementing a very wearable hairstyle option for bob to shoulder length hair.

I started the look of by filling in the brows, making them a little more full and arched similar to the 1940′s {in the 30′s they would have been a lot thinner and more curved and rounded in shape}. I then created a clean base on the lids of the eyes to reinforce the brow shape and keep them looking neat and tidy. You can do this with a foundation, concealer or a specially formulated eye base, which will normally be the better option as it prevents the creasing of the shadows once set with a little powder.

Next I applied a gel liner was added to the root of the lash and softened down with a charcoal black eyeshadow. I then added a soft smoky grey eyeshadow to the lower lids. As Helena has green eyes I used one with a soft lilac/heather coloured undertone as this makes the green really pop! This will also work for blue eyes, or you can opt for a blue grey shadow on brown eyes for the same effect. I then applied a good coat of mascara before a discreet set of lashes were applied just to add volume and a little length.

I then concealed any shadows under the eyes and any imperfections, and then applied foundation and powder. The next step is the contour and highlight this was done very subtly with a warm toned bronzer swept on the cheekbones and by adding a brightening powder under the eyes and on the tops of cheekbones to enhance her bone structure without harsh contouring. To add a little contrast a soft pink blush was added by way of blusher and a classic pink lip colour was applied with a little gloss on top to finish.

So what are we thinking? It's not to hard a look to recreate right? I think most of you will have these products to hand in your make up bags, perhaps with the exception of some false lashes. Why not purchase some and get to playing, as it just takes a little practice and voila! The results will be very sexy peepers! And ladies, drug store make up is also of a very high quality now, so it needn't be expensive. My word of advice would be with any application a good set of brushes is key as it is all about the application as to how the end result turns out.
