Fun Skull & Crossbones DIY Wedding | Whimsical Wonderland Weddings

via

WWW readers Helen and Ed had a really relaxed approach to their wedding plans. They planned their day to be relaxed and fun without a strict theme or having every tradition.

They had their dog alongside them, skull and crossbones and no bouquets. Helen made the fruit wedding cake, alongside so many lovely touches for their marquee.

Not to mention that Helen and Ed donned customised skull converse in the evening... what a party.

Thanks so much to Sally T for sharing her photographs with us today.

pretty relaxed, the main blogs I looked at were Whimsical Wonderland Weddings, and Rock and Roll Bride. I steered well clear of any bridal magazines, that just wasn't my thing at all. The first thing I made was bunting - 200 metres of the stuff. We didn't want a set theme, but just included some of our favourite things, which resulted in a rather marvellous hotch potch. The nearest thing we had to a theme was probably skull and cross bones! When we met, I was wearing skull and cross bone sneakers and Ed didn't believe I was a barrister... So we had skull and cross bone fabric in the bunting, on the napkins and our friend David, who is an artist, personalised two pairs of sneakers to reflect the originals. We did a smash and grab raid to Ikea for candles and wine glasses, and got our flowers from the local market. I would definitely recommend a spreadsheet for keeping track of what you've done and what's still to do. My spreadsheet was a bit of a monster by the end but I definitely wouldn't have coped without it. My Mum was great too, as she was able to organise local things which were a bit more difficult with us living in London ie marquee site visits, flower arranging etc. Getting stuff that wasn't time sensitive ie buying wine glasses, done in advance was a Godsend.

The Venue... The tiny local chapel for our service, then a walk down the hill to a marquee in my parents back garden.

The Honeymoon... Three weeks in Nice and Corsica. Amazing and so relaxing. We had amazing weather and lived like kings. It was perfect.

Advice for Other Couples... The only thing that matters is that you get married in front of all of the people who you love and who love you. Everything else is a bonus! Don't worry about the weather - just have waterproofing plans in place. The day before our wedding chucked it down but the day itself was dry and calm, and it even got sunny as we came out of church. Don't feel bound to have what other people think you should - I didn't have a veil, a bouquet, a wedding car, and our gift list was charity donations. Make it personal to you both. And don't stress about things going wrong - no one will either notice or care. Make sure you have ten minutes with your new husband/wife where you just take everything in - the day will go so quickly and be over before you know it.
