How to: The Bow Bun

Top knots, messy buns, sock buns, braided buns, and the list goes on. It's safe to say our hair has spent of good portion of its lifetime in bun form. The basis of its appeal is simple: a good bun is a quick and easy hairstyle that doesn't require a lot of effort to look chic. Plus, there's a bun for every occasion. There are buns that make perfect oops I overslept hair solutions, buns that we break out for special events, and buns that fit nicely into both categories, like the bow bun. Need proof? Professional mane maven Emma Willis pulled together this pretty-as-a-present look in just four steps.

  1. Ponytail. You can make your ponytail as high or low as you please.
  2. Loop. Pull your ponytail through the hair tie to create an open loop. Leave a few inches hanging down.
  3. Split the loop. Split the loop down the center to create two even sections. These will be the loops of the bow. Use bobby pins to pin down the backside of each loop.
  4. Twist the Tail. Take the remaining section of the ponytail that is hanging down and twist it. Lift that piece up over the center and pin it in place. (For extra staying power, spray L'Oréal Elnett Satin Hairspray Strong Hold all over.)
