SHAUN + LELANIE'S RED BARN WEDDING

SHAUN + LELANIE'S RED BARN WEDDING

via

Today we are sharing the stunning wedding of Shaun and Lelanie shot by D'amor Photography. Shaun and Lelanie got married in the beautiful valley of Dullstroom at the The Red Barn. The day was filled with perfect light, clouds and beautiful landscapes, what more can a photographer ask for... and to top it all off I had an amazing, inspiring couple that creates fireworks in font off the camera. The couple shares their story.

Their theme for the wedding was 'time' - (all things in God's time ) so they incorporated this into the decor and stationary. I am crazy about the venue and the fact that Shaun made the cute red door ceremony wall and all the lights for the reception. Lelanie owned that gorgeous Enzoani dress that fit her body like a clove. She was simply flawless. The ceremony took place right in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes. It was truly an inspiring and perfect wedding from root to tip.

{I Propose} - Elaborate on how the two of you met or on how the proposal went down.

Shaun & I met in March 2012 through a mutual friend who at the time was my boss. The arrangement was purely business, but little did I know my boss' only words to Shaun was "just take her for coffee". Shaun knew immediately we were made for each other and my procrastination wore off when the realization hit me only a year later. We started dating in April 2013 and got engaged three months later. His sense of adventure and randomness fuels mine and his love and compassion just drew me out of my comfort zone. I loved it and still do!

{Bride & Prejudice} - Express some memorable experiences you had during the planning.

We decided on a theme "everything in God's time" and it was displayed in the detail. A friend made the emblem and the décor consisting of old books, Baby's Breath arrangements in jars, oil lamps and memorable wine. We collected the décor from Hendrina's Antique shop, the Antique shop in Dullstroom as well as lace and burlap from Pretoria and Witbank. The wedding favors were honey, olives and figs that we got from Shaun's mother's farm market and the Wine was a favorite of Shaun's who got a lot of praise at the reception (Grinder). The stickers on the wedding favors as well as the menu were designed by me and printing done by Secret Diary Designs.

My favorite little detail was in the men's rosettes; In the search of getting the detail just right we came upon a little craft shop in Hendrina. My mom begged to go in and there we found little clock gears which I used in the centre of each rosette. The biggest trademark for the Sutton wedding (and a big favourite) was the red doors Shaun made that stood in the field for me to enter through. It was bright red with white supporting walls. The doors were inspired by the red doors found on their family farm outside the pump house (and Pinterest). So beautiful! The day before the wedding we had all hands on deck and everyone worked to stick on the stickers, hang the lights Shaun made, doing the table arrangements and making everything come together. The mood was uplifting and everyone was so excited.

{My Fair Wedding} - Describe an event that you feel was unique or even funny.

Our wedding day felt surreal and at first I wished time would pass so that I could get into that beautiful dress. I wrote my parents letters to read before the day started and all the crying was mostly done until we got to the vows. I was happy that Shaun got to speak first so that I could gather the emotions and turn the surrealistic into the heavenly reality that was in front of me. It was a fun and enjoyable day and I did not get tired of smiling or posing for even one photo.

{Don't Tell The Bride} - Reveal something that happened behind the scenes.

We I finally decided on the right shirts for the men to wear after trying almost 4 different shirts. The struggle was worth it. The DJ started the song at the wrong time for the big appearance and my dad had to close the doors when they opened. My dress was not unhooked for the train to be shown off during the entrance did I later find out after seeing the photos. But all the unfortunate minor events made it more memorable.

Don't worry about the day. You have done what you could have done and made all the decisions. Your guests don't know about all the arrangements and mistakes and they don't have to. When you start stressing and fighting over the small things (like shirts) then you have to stand still and ask yourself why you are doing this. You will see the hurdles become very small very quickly. If you want to wear heels and know it won't work due to your venue or because it's an outside wedding just order heel protectors by Fuchsia. They are amazing and kept me in my shoes throughout the whole day.

{ No More Wedding Woes} - Share your wedding advice for future brides.

If you are planning your own wedding, make sure there is one person who is your confidante who is not part of the wedding party or your mom, but who will ensure everything runs smoothly on the day. Practice your walk-in with the DJ and the wedding party. It is a big moment and one that flies by so quickly!

If you are not too traditional, sit with your friends. At our wedding we had two long tables and we placed ourselves with our friends who traveled from far and whom we don't see that often. Our parents loved it as they were placed with family-friends and other family. The DJ started the song at the wrong time for the big appearance and my dad had to close the doors when they opened. My dress was not unhooked for the train to be shown off during the entrance did I later find out after seeing the photos. But all the unfortunate minor events made it more memorable.
