Freedom and Willow's Freestate Celebration

Today on Wedding Friends we are featuring a rather well known face from the South African television. The wedding of Freedom and Willow. Earlier this year we featured their engagement shoot and thought it well to feature their wedding, to see how their special day became a reality after the stunning E-shoot they had. The wedding was also shot by the Freestate photographer Palm Photography who really did a great job with their wedding. Enjoy this post with us.

{I Propose} - Elaborate on how the two of you met or on how the proposal went down.

I was on a flight to Cape Town with a friend of mine Heino Schmidt (Altus 7de laan) when I first met Willow. I remember telling him that Willow is my wife to be and I was going to marry her. I asked her for her phone number, which she gave to me after a bit of hesitation.I deciced that I would only call her if I got an external sign that she was really one, and when I saw her again later that day I knew that we were definitely meant for each other. I waved to grab her attention and she looked at me as if I was crazy. Four years later I'm getting married to her.

For my proposal, I had special events and surprises lined up leading to me popping the big question. I booked a surprise spa treatment for her while I was in Windhoek for business and I asked Heino to surprise her with flowers and asked and a poem I had written for her. He was also my best man.On my return I had organized a studio shoot for Willow as she used to model back in the day. I had the company make 2 canvas prints from the photos. One had Willow's photo with the poem that Heino recited for her. The second one had a photo of both of us with a second poem that I had written for her. I arranged for my mom to have a woman to woman bonding talk and my family gave her the first canvas.

We then flew off to Cape Town, one place that Willow holds very dearly to her heart, under the premise that we are having a one day getaway. There we had dinner at a restaurant looking over the whole of Cape Town. I hired a private dining suite at one of the hotels and while having drinks, some of her friends and family started showing up to join us for dinner. We had a fabulous night of dining and entertainment. I sang to her and gave her the second canvas print and recited the second poem to her. In the morning after having breakfast, we took a walk towards the beach and since it was low tide,we could jump on the rocks and sit in the middle of the sea. We spoke about the future ,our plans and where we wanted to be in life. Suddenly in true Mother City fashion, we were covered with a blanket of mist and right there with only the 2 of us in site I got on one knee and asked her to marry me. She cried and cried and accepted my proposal.

{Bride & Prejudice} - Express some memorable experiences you had during the planning.

Before the ceremony on our wedding day. We hadn't seen each other for 3 weeks. It was part of the counseling we had received by Zane and Megan Meas. We really missed each other and seeing her with renewed eyes I knew we were doing the right thing. She was so beautiful it took me back to the day we first met.

{My Fair Wedding} - Describe an event that you feel was unique or even funny.

Our wedding day was filled with laughter and one could feel the love. We were surrounded by our loved ones, close friends and colleagues. We went for an elegant look, taking weddings back to the old way of doing weddings. Tuxedos with bow ties and traditional black and white. Hollywood glamor nights.Everyone really felt like they were at a wedding.

{Don't Tell The Bride} - Reveal something that happened behind the scenes.

A few minutes before we started with the formal wedding proceedings on the garden with the pastor I was sitting in the waiting room, ready, prim and proper. I started looking back to how far we have come, to the point of getting married. The time was here and finally what I saw the first time we met was coming true. I was suddenly overcome, by this overwhelming feeling and emotions, because it was really a tough year forus, but we made it. I felt that we had conquered and we were triumphant in our quest.

{No More Wedding Woes} - Share your wedding advice for future brides.

Everything depends on careful planning. The planning stages like with any project can either make or break the wedding. One should never compromise your ideas for your big day for anybody. Not for family, friends, service providers or what people will think. If the 2 of you are in agreement. That's all that matters. Do what's going to make you guys happy. When you compromise, it should be for the 2 of you and no one else.
