Multitasking Magic: 6 Tasks You Can Complete While Blowdrying Your Hair

via

As busy young professional women, we find that the art of multitasking is something to be treasured and practiced whenever possible. And as hair-obsessed beauty girls, we've identified the act of drying hair as one of the biggest (and missed) opportunities for multitasking. True, the number of activities that can successfully be carried out while wielding a blowdryer is small, but don't underestimate yourself. There are at least six tasks that you can cross off your list in addition to completing the perfect blowout.

Give Oil Pulling a Whirl.

You've been hearing about it everywhere, but the bigger question is not "Does it work?" so much as "Who in the world has 10-20 minutes to swish around coconut oil in their mouths?!" Answer: You do. While oil pulling might not cure all ills like some bloggers claim, it is beneficial to your oral health. Once your hair is dry and your mouth all swished-out, spit the oil out in the trash and smile at the newly rejuvenated and freshly styled you in the mirror.

Whiten Your Teeth.

If oil pulling doesn't strike your fancy, you can use this time to whiten your teeth the not-so-old-fashioned way. Most teeth whitening products require 30 minutes of whitener-to-tooth contact, which is a solid chunk of the day when you think about all things you can't do while whitening your teeth. Knock out a good portion of those 30 minutes by applying before you pick up your hairdryer.

Clear Up Your T-Zone.

If you're anything like us, you always start the week with the best of skin-care intentions, promising yourself you'll make time for that treatment mask designed to be used 2-3 times weekly. But more often than not, Saturday rolls round and you realize your efforts have fallen short, as evidenced by that blemish on your nose. Change all that by using this time to apply a clay mask. With hair blowing everywhere, it's best to pick a mask that dries (save your moisture masks for in-shower use). Try applying Kiehl's Rare Earth Pore Cleansing Masque or The Body Shop Seaweed Ionic Clay Mask to your T-zone or any other oily areas to draw out impurities while you dry your hair.

Work on Your Quads (and Booty).

If there's one exercise we could all stand to work into our daily routine, it's squats. Squats are a total lower body workout that also strengthens your core. And they can be done anywhere, anytime - hands free! Power up your blowdryer, stand with your feet hip-width apart, lower your body as if you're about to sit in a chair, then rise back up to standing. For even more glutes and core sculpting, add a knee lift each time you stand up.

Work on Your Calves.

Probably one of simplest exercises you can do, calf raises are a summertime necessity for showing off shapely legs. Simply rise up to the balls of your feet, lower back down and repeat. Try doing this in a few sets, first with your feet parallel facing forward, then with your toes slightly turned out, and turn your toes slightly inward for the last set. Do 10-12 raises in each position to reach every angle and repeat the cycle until your locks are ready to go.

Let Products Dry.

What better time to let your pedi dry or your self-tanner sink in then when there's tons of air blowing everywhere. Let us lay out the lineup for you: shower, self-tanner, pedicure, blowdry, makeup, and ta-da - the perfect "get ready for a summer soiree" plan of action!

Quick Tip: Paranoid about ruining your wet nail polish? For extra reassurance, add a drop of to your nails before you break out the blowdryer.
