Alternative Alice in Wonderland Party Wedding with a Bunny Rabbit | Whimsical Wonderland Weddings

A wedding where the feel of the day was inspired by the bride and groom's white house rabbit, George? Amazing.

WWW readers Delyth and Shane married on Friday 13th September 2013 in Manchester. They went for an Alice in Wonderland theme for their super fun party wedding. There was mad hatter style décor, beautiful blooms and George the Bunny hopped down a carrot decorated aisle

I so love Delyth's bridal look, a tea length dress with blue sash and mini top hat worked perfectly with her red lips and nails.

Thanks goes to Lucy Little for sharing her delightful photographs with us today.

THE PROPOSAL | After 7 years together Shane proposed to me on Christmas Day 2012. Very casual and in a hung over state! thrust a ring into my face and said 'Lets get married!' I was in deep shock but of course said yes.

THE VISION | The day was completely built around our large white house rabbit, George! So straight away an Alice in Wonderland theme seemed very fitting. We just wanted to create a really fun day and nothing too formal. Just a big party!

THE PLANNING PROCESS | Shane's step dad is a vicar ( well he retired in June but made a special come back for one night only!) so we asked if he would marry us in his church, we explained that we wanted to involve George, have carrots tied to the pews and have songs instead of hymns and he loved the idea.

BUDGET | £10,000

THE VENUE | As we are both from Manchester we wanted to get married locally - we have been living in Nottingham for the past 6 years. We got married at St.Stephens Church Kearsley and had the reception at Prestwich golf club.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | I wore an all lace strapless ivory ballerina style dress with a big net skirt. It had a wide pale blue taffeta belt with an oversized bow at the back with butterflies dotted on the bow ties. I had an ivory miniature top hat with a spotted bow and birdcage veil. I wore a vintage marquisite necklace and bracelet and silver heeled sandals.

FINDING THE DRESS | Being a Designer the first thing I did was sketch up my dress! I then trawled numerous vintage and high street shops in different cities to find the sketched dress. Of course I didn't find the dress straight away and nearly considered making it myself or getting it made, but then one day in Manchester with my mum, I found the exact style I was after and new that after a few special additions I would be able to style it up as I wished!

GROOM'S ATTIRE | Shane wanted a slick suit for himself and the best men, so we opted for a dark grey with pale blue ties and pocket hankies to tie in with my dress. Shane opted for a floral tie to stand out as the groom.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | George hopped down to 'I'm late I'm late for a very important date'. Myself and the flower girls walked to 'Canis lupis' from Fantastic Mr Fox - A beautiful ethereal piece of music. We sang 'Love me Do' and 'Top of the world' in church instead of traditional hymns.

Shane and I left the church to the True Romance soundtrack, 'You're so cool' - my favourite film. We walked into the reception to 'White wedding' Billy Idol and first dance was 'You and me' by Penny and the quarters.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | Our 2 nieces were flower girls and they wore simple fairy style pixie dresses with a hint of sparkle and floral headbands. George was the page bunny he just wore his beautiful white coat, though there was a mention of a dicky bow...

THE FLOWERS | I had a wild flowers bouquet with lots of colour and butterflies randomly scattered within.

THE CAKE | Well, the cake. This was magnificent, all mis - matched cupcakes with Alice in wonderland themes. The main top cake was the mad hatters table, it was so colourful and bright, exactly what we had hoped for on a big heart shaped cake stand.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Lucy Little, she was amazing!!! My friend suggested Lucy and as soon as we met I knew she would do a fantastic job, and she certainly did. We met up and showed Lucy the venues and she was extremely attentive and interested in our concept and also after spending a couple of hours together got a good idea of our personalities so that this could be brought out in the photographs. She was great with George and all of our guests and I was completely at ease to go with all of Lucy's fabulous ideas, she had our complete trust. We received the photos and a beautiful slideshow which was so thoughtful, every emotion of the day was captured and these will be treasured for ever, we cannot thank her enough!

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | Rustic farmers carrots were strung from the church pews with white ribbon. We had oversized teapots at the front of the church filled with flowers.

The tables had second hand teapots with my mothers home grown flowers and each table also had a mismatched clock and toadstool. The top table had mismatched china, a giant toadstool and coffee pot with stacked up teacups and miniture tea set. This was to echo the Mad Hatters tea party. The card holder was a giant mad hatters hat and we had bright foam signs strung around the venue saying 'This way' 'Wrong way'. We managed to find a lot of the décor from weeks of car booting and charity shopping and also made a lot of the room features ourselves.

The food was a Brazilian BBQ which, although it rained, still managed to give the party a summer feel! Our wedding car was a blue and white volkswagon camper van with an exquisite white leather interior, complete with a lovely pair of eyelashes. The wedding favours were traditional sweets wrapped up with 'eat me' labels attached with ribbon.

THE HONEYMOON | We flew to Nice on the Sunday morning then went on to Cannes and Marseille. It was a fabulous 12 days with sunshine and blue skies every day. Lots of celebrating!

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | Being called 'Dennis' by Shane when we were doing our vows - he was so nervous! The reaction of our friends and family when George proceeded to hop down the aisle to 'I'm late, I'm late for a very important date' I have never seen so many camera flashes and people stood on the pews to get a better view! It was the best day of our lives and we have never laughed so much! The dancefloor was packed all night long!

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Don't stress about the little things, everything works out on the day. Enjoy every minute as it goes so fast and do the wedding the way you want to do it! no matter how different, it' s your day and should be a total reflection of your personalities. Definitely have a photographer! We nearly decided not to bother and that would have been our biggest regret as it was a lovely surprise to see the final photos to re live the day.
