As we've seen time and time again, weddings tend to be surprise-oriented.

It's rare, though, that those surprises are intended for the family and not the bride and groom.

Australia-based Stephen Nolan told his mom via video message that he wouldn't be in Ireland for his sister's wedding.

"Unfortunately I'm not going to make it home for the wedding," he says in the clip, "But if I start swimming now I'll get there on time."

Nolan immediately turns from the camera and dives into the water, a move that might just seem like an attempt to cheer his mom up had it not been for the beach she was sitting in front of.

When his mother looks up from her laptop, she sees a figure emerging from the water. If only it was Nolan -- "Wouldn't that be amazing?" she asks, almost wistfully. "Wouldn't it?"

But then she squints harder at the figure, and, in disbelief, reaches for her glasses. It's Nolan, standing by the water, as if he swam all the way from Sydney to Dublin to see his mother and sister. She runs towards him.

Their faces at the end of the video say it all. Mother and son, reunited, and just in time. Best wedding surprise ever.
