Covered Bridge Wedding

Covered Bridge Wedding

Unusual wedding venues are always fun! This DIY-ing bride and groom wanted a location that wasn't the norm and they found it in Honey Run Covered Bridge just outside of Chico, CA.

This gorgeous bridge provided a rustic and down to earth environment for their vows and dinner reception. Captured by Kimie Grace Photography you can see all of the details in the full gallery here and keep reading for a budget breakdown as well as some sage advice from Molly.

Words from the Vendors

From Kimie Grace Photography:
Ben and Molly got married at the Honey Run Covered Bridge - a stunning day and a gorgeous bohemian styled wedding. They started out getting ready at their home (a yurt that they built themselves!!), and moved on to the ceremony and reception at the covered bridge. Very few weddings have taken place there, and it was an honor getting to shoot in such a romantic and seemingly untouched area.

There is something incredible about the committing of two lives taking place in a unique historical location that has stood the test of time. While the wedding ceremony took place under the shade of the trees next to the bridge, the reception was actually inside the bridge itself. The bare beams were draped with cafe bulb light strands and large white paper lanterns, the simple decor only accentuating the character of the old wood and the rich history. Everything about this wedding was DIY; so romantic with a fresh simplicity. All of their flowers were purchased the morning of the wedding from the local farmer's market. Bright red and orange ranunculus and peonies in mason jars sat on tables next to small hand painted wooden signs, staked in pots with climbing vines. Each sign spoke of love and relationship, reflecting the sweetness of the day.

Steal Worthy Idea

Booze and weddings tend to go hand in hand, and we can't help cheering when we see brides and grooms encourage responsible drinking! So if you will be serving alcohol on your big day keep your guests safe by providing a list of taxi cab numbers at your bar like the one above.

This is just one couple's breakdown to give you a rough estimate on how much a wedding like this may cost you.

Budget Breakdown:
Bridge site rental: $700
Dress: Nicole Miller, purchased on EBay. $350 + $300 in alterations for a total of $650
Catering: $3800
Rings: engagement ring was a family heirloom, vintage wedding band: $500... Ben's handmade from Etsy: $500

What I would have done differently... well, the day was just great and I wouldn't really change a thing! Oh, I know! There was an undergarment mishap! Sorry if this is too much information, but I was convinced that I could go "commando" under my dress (at the seamstress it all looked o.k.) but when I put the dress on at home, getting ready for the wedding, it was way more see-through than I had realized! So my advice to future brides would be to MAKE SURE that you have the right undergarments for the dress! Haha :)
