A cowlick (which looks exactly like it sounds) occurs when your hair follicle grows too strongly in one direction. Often, this direction is opposite to the rest of your hair. Cowlicks most commonly occur along the front hairline or at the highest point of your head. While many people can suffer from this hair conundrum all of their lives, in some cases cowlicks may become less prominent or disappear altogether with age. Although they generally tend to be a nuisance, these rebellious growth patterns are by no means unstoppable. They can be tamed in a fashion that will keep you with not a hair out of place!


Neutralize it
When it comes to cowlicks, I generally take the neutralizing approach during the styling process. The trick is to brush the area you wish to tame while blow drying. Continue this until you feel as though your hair is laying in the desired direction. I also like to pull the section down while it is still warm, using the tension and heat to set it in. This will flatten out your cowlick leaving it to lay in a more natural position. Hide it
One of the easiest ways to cope with a cowlick is to have your stylist design a cut and style that uses the cowlick to your advantage. Usually it's as simple as adjusting where you part your hair! Ask your stylist what cut will work best in camouflaging your cowlick!

Erase it
When dealing with more stubborn cowlicks, sometimes it's necessary to find a more permanent solution. Go with it
